Idle subject, but when I walked into the library to pick up my daughter just now, as she was chatting with a friend, she started weighing in about the Rivendell cap (cycling, please, I don't wear baseball caps) and how dorky it is. (Her friend said it was "cool".) She also publicly denigrated the cute li'l yellow custom caps I have from LittlePacketdotcom, with their custom-attenuated brims (can't see out under regular cycling cap brims unless I fold them back by half an inch). I had been thinking about my favorite caps, and I have to say that  my own personal favorites have been the ever-on-sale "retro" caps sold by Nashbar -- I have Molteni, BP, and one other I can't now remember; it advertises "chrome cassettes" -- remember those?) and, of course the coolest of the cool is the Molteni one. (The only cooler one would be a Teve Blad cap; alas, I outgrew my Teve Blad jersey. $1 to the first one to identify this name in its current context.)

Can anyone beat this coolness?

The Nashbar caps are indeed well made and, if I fold up the brim and add elastic, they work well.

Patrick Moore, idling away this Orthodox Good Friday afternoon in ABQ, NM, who long ago swore he'd never use the word "cool" again.

I have a lot of caps, but my coolest one is my Tarik Saleh bike club cap. Yes, Randi Jo makes these awesome wool caps for many folks, but this is the only one that starts conversations: "who is that", etc. And my kids think it's just 1% less-weird than my other cycling caps!

Hi.

I'm Jim and I'm a capaholic

Point #1 - I thought the whole point of having children was to publicly embarrass them.

Point #2 - The TSBC series is one of the few which truly, actually fit my melon.  Snagged this one, which inspires me on cold mornings in the booth.

Coolest cycling cap? ... whatever I'm wearing at the time... Today it's a Kangol woolie... comfy, warm, breathes, and Samuel L wears them (although he flips his around backwards, which is way cool)... Peace, BB

Coolest? At the moment, probably this one:

Bought it at the Singer shop in Levallois some four years before I got the bike to go with it.

Many nice and even slightly "cool" caps, but No one has gotten the Teve Blad reference!

I agree with Jim that one of the great delights of parenthood is teasing your children. Anecdote: when my daughter was in 2d and 3d grade, she delighted to have me ride down to her school and eat lunch with her and her friends. When she went to another school in grade 6, this one only 1 mile from my house, I remarked: "You're so close I can come by for lunch every day!" The reaction was comical!

Thanks David and Jim,

I do really like all the randy jo ones, and I am selling some TSBC ones right now, $34 shipped in the US, a light weight wool one and a regular weight, preorders through 4/20. See:

I will probably have some extras when they come in, but if you are anything other than medium, it is best to preorder. They come in your choice of 4 sizes.

I am also gonna do a few randi Jo brooks saddle covers with the TSbC logo on the underneath part, contact me if interested.

The lightweight wool is very nice, but it is hard to beat the synthetic ones when it is super hot.  If I get my deal together I will do a run of tsbc synthetic waltz caps in the future. I like the way those fit.

Later

Tarik
