Early Riv Serial numbers?

Hey Gang,

Just reading about the stolen Atlantis and the importance of keeping track of the serial numbers.  I was looking at my Atlantis the other day for just this reason and can only find "Rivendell" stamped on the bottom bracket.  No serial number.  Did the early Riv's not have serial numbers?  Did they stamp them somewhere else?  This Atlantis is an early one; from 1999 based on what the original owner told me when I bought it from him.

 I've owned a few Atlantis', all from the TOYO factory and the serial number is on the bottom bracket reading left to right.. looks like this:  (example) AT0115

I don't think I've heard of any Atlantii which didn't have serial numbers.  

It's possible that it wasn't deeply stamped and may have filled in with paint - I'd double check the bb area with it super clean under high intensity direct light.

Hold a light up to the bb and move it around at different angles until you can see the number indentations.
Maybe try a paper rubbing, too.

Try shooting photos of it with a flash as well.  My soma had a few "missing" numbers that showed up when I shot photos with a flash.

The first Atlantis frames were delivered in the fall of 2000. They all have numbers on the bottom bracket shell, running horizontal. Some were pretty lightly stamped and hard to read. Mine was from the first batch, too. Ol' No. 91.

Ah, there it is.  Thanks for your help gang.  I guess the first time I looked I didn't look hard enough.  I saw the "Rivendell" stamp and was expecting something similarly distinct.  Looks like this frame is stamped AT0051.  Guessing that means #51?  Here's a photo: https://flic.kr/p/qLu96Q

Yep. AT0051 means the 51st Atlantis.

I am the second owner of a 51 Atlantis.

I have asked the original owner but he was not sure if it was made by Toyo Japan or Waterford.

Would anyone know where based on serial number AT1357?

If all Riv's use that number format, I may have the 15th Hunqapillar!   It's one of the few with orange panels/head tube.

Yep, the orange/gray is very rare. Plus I don't think Toyo did many Hunqapillars before Waterford took over.

Hello- Long time lurker, seldom posting.

After quite literally years of searching for the right one, recently acquired an Atlantis in my size- a 61, so 700c wheel size.

Currently undergoing a total rebuild, will post pics when complete.

Serial number is AT0615, so assume it is the 615th built, maybe delivered in the 2002-ish timeframe? Components indicate somewhere around then and my understanding is that in the early Atl days a batch of 100 arrived at Riv every three months. Or so. Which would make mine the 15th of the 6th batch?

Any light shed is appreciated!
