I've never done a big organized ride before and have been putting off a century. I like the mixed terrain options for the Levi's Gran Fondo, curious if anyone here is planning on bringing their Rivendells out to that or any other 2015 events? Or if anyone has any good suggestions based on past experience.

Marin County Bicycle Coalition runs three Dirt Fondos - late June (Solstice), July (women-only) and August (Mt Tam challenge).   There is also rumor of a road Fondo in October.

SF Randonneurs runs a series (as do other Rando groups around the bay).  This year is PBP, so there's a lot of focus on that. But, there is a hearty contingent of mixed-terrain riders.

And if you put the word out here, there are probably more than a few locals who would be proud to share their routes with you.

Dave -

I do Levi's Gran Fondo every year on a Rivendell or similar bike - - mostly on a Roadeo, once on a Della Santa.

The Wine Country Century is coming up, in two weeks, here in Santa Rosa.  Not sure which bike I'll ride - - maybe my "old" Rivendell Road.

Tour de Fuzz is fun too - my partners are one of the event sponsors (http://www.pjammcycling.com/)

Marin Century, Aug 1, covers very classic and classy West Marin territory, always a good ride, with numerous route options.  It's one of the very few organized rides that I'm motivated to do, and I'm planning to be there on something...  maybe my travel Gunnar, or maybe the '82 Sequoia I have stashed in Marin.

Ooh, that's a good one. I might make an effort to get into something resembling riding shape in time for it (my mileage has plummeted disastrously the last couple years). Oh, I guess a bike with a reasonable number of gears would help, too...

The Meet Your Maker Tour was recently brought to my attention: http://meetyourmakertour.com/

I intend to join the June 6 ride from West Sac. 50 miles of mixed terrain through the Delta, followed by beer at Bike Dog. What could be better?

The Grinduro in October looks epic, and a pretty good deal at $200 all inclusive. And kind of a neat enduro-type format...http://meetyourmakertour.com/rides/oct-9-11-2015/

Sounds like great fun, Neil. I'm from Sacramento, but have been on the other side of the country for years. I'd love to do this ride if I could!

Grizzly Peak Century: http://www.grizz.org/century/

It covers a lot of roads that Grant P wrote about in his Roads to Ride books. Definitely a classic, and you're likely to see more Rivs on this ride than most.

All good suggestions. The Grizzly Peak one is the one that got me interested but I moved to slow in making a decision ;). I think I"m going to try the Marin County one on Aug 1, and possibly the Levi's Gran Fondo, both metric. Will definitely check out the other ones.

This is really cool! http://meetyourmakertour.com/rides/

I see they're turning the one-off MYM rides into a series of events. Looks great!
