So what cool bike parts does everyone want Grant to bring back from Japan/Taiwan/wherever else he was going?

I was just thinking about the fact that Rivendell has a very successful track record with regard to new ideas and new products.  I trust whatever they decide to bring in.  85-90% of the things Rivendell stocks don't fit into my lifestyle or bikestyle but I can recommend them without reservation.

What do I want to see?  A new agreement with Toyo for Japanese built frames.

How about the Sugino 801t?

Or the Mighty Mignon, for shorter riders.  Not many crank sets out there at 140-155mm lengths.

I'd like to see the Sugino cranks offered with a black or hard anodizing. Next I'd like to see the big front rack with a small tomb stone to accommodate a rando bag. Yes I'm aware of the other version "Campee" rack with detachable low riders but the top rack isn't as sturdy and detachable parts have a way of being misplaced and I'm lazy and don't want to take them on & off. My 2 cents.

Seems to me that if one is going to own, or build out a $3000 cycle, one is going to want a gen-hub and decent lights. I gotta believe 80% of what's built here includes lights now.

With that in mind, I'd like to see fork options, either wireless, or with wire runs built on. The practice of using zip ties is bush league for bikes at this level. It is time to offer wiring & lighting amenities, not as custom options, but as regular, everyday, options, just like one chooses shifters and chain rings.

I just don't see rbw doing internal routing and the like. They could however do brake one for clipping wires to as I have seen on other bikes. Doesn't at least seem that difficult to do for a lot of the made to order frames.

Mostly I am thinking: racks with light posts, fork blades with wire runs, or better... wireless set ups.

Which is to say: Include light requirements in the design.

Riv designs for fenders and kickstands. Why not lights?

It's a mystery. Riv is so good at recognizing/emphasizing the basics: racks, fenders, tire clearances.

Why not lights? Many of us ride at night. I ride with day-lights.

I ride with my lights on at all times and wish there was a better way than zip ties to secure wires to my beautiful bike, trust me. I am sure someone did a cost benefit analysis and it came out better for the long run to not spend the extra on every frame when only some people would be using lights. That being said I again reiterate that for the premium, made to order frames it seems like a small thing for rbw to add on light friendly braze ons during the actual brazing of the frame.
