Folks,
We had our call today and I will just write down my notes to share with you:
- We had 11 people join, most of them I believe are familiar to you
(take a look at the attached screenshot) except for maybe VB (or
Vaibhav) who called in from Germany. He was one of the speakers for
PyCon KR a few years ago and is currently helping out with organizing
EuroPython.
- We discussed PyCon APAC in TH (Nov 20-21) where they are waiting for
a speaker from each of our countries which we can recommend to them.
Please send your recommendations before the end of July.
- PyCon APAC TH: CFP is still open; Will be helpful if you can help to
continue promoting it among your local communities
- PyCon APAC TH: Discussed about how to set pricing between in-person
and online version of the conference (no conclusion I think?)
- The PSF: We talked about pushing memberships and being a voting
member (I am happy to report that everyone on the call is a PSF
member!)
- The PSF: We talked about the coming directors election, and choosing
the 2 candidates from the APAC region (Zheao Li and Iqbal Abdullah),
and also Débora Azevedo who is a member of the D&I WG
- The PSF: Iqbal requested that in the future each conference (local,
regional) have a 15 or 20 minutes session for the PSF to promote
itself and do membership drives.
Finally, an announcement:
It's time to think about hosting PyCon APAC 2022! I will prepare the
documentation and also schedule for proposals, voting and announcement
later this month, but if you have intentions to host APAC in 2022,
please start thinking about it. You can even start writing your
proposals: I expect the format will be similar to what we have in the
past:
https://github.com/PyConAPAC/proposals
In terms of scheduling, I haven't discussed it with the PyCon APAC TH
team yet, but it might be great if we can announce the next hosts at
the end of PyCon APAC 2021 like we usually do. Anyway, I will send
another announcement once I have a new directory prepared for 2022 in
our GitHub repo.
In the meantime, take care and stay safe!
