Folks,

As for continuation from our previous APAC, and also with the ongoing
PSF directors elections I would like to invite us to have another get
together online within the next week. Georgi has also done a wonderful
job getting people to sign up for the PSF so I would like to invite
her to also talk about that work of hers.

Here's the Doodle to set our schedule:

Well folks,

I apologize for the short lead time on this, but since I need to decide on which date we can have our call, I will wait until 11PM JST tonight and I will close the poll and decide on what day we'll have the call based on your answers to the Doodle.

If you would like to join us, please enter your preference in the Doodle here: https://doodle.com/poll/bybs5hkb78bxn9ef?utm_source=poll&utm_medium=link

Thank you for your attention and your time.

OK folks,

It seems June 6th (Sun) 8PM to 9PM JST (+9 UTC) will be the time slot we'll get the most people available.

So lets make our call tomorrow at 8PM JST.
I'll send over the Zoom link to this group, and if anyone else can make it you'll be welcomed to join.

If Georgi can't make it tomorrow, I'll just be talking about the PSF elections and also our D&I initiative.

Folks,
We had our call today and I will just write down my notes to share with you:

- We had 11 people join, most of them I believe are familiar to you
(take a look at the attached screenshot) except for maybe VB (or
Vaibhav) who called in from Germany. He was one of the speakers for
PyCon KR a few years ago and is currently helping out with organizing
EuroPython.
- We discussed PyCon APAC in TH (Nov 20-21) where they are waiting for
a speaker from each of our countries which we can recommend to them.
Please send your recommendations before the end of July.
- PyCon APAC TH: CFP is still open; Will be helpful if you can help to
continue promoting it among your local communities
- PyCon APAC TH: Discussed about how to set pricing between in-person
and online version of the conference (no conclusion I think?)
- The PSF: We talked about pushing memberships and being a voting
member (I am happy to report that everyone on the call is a PSF
member!)
- The PSF: We talked about the coming directors election, and choosing
the 2 candidates from the APAC region (Zheao Li and Iqbal Abdullah),
and also Débora Azevedo who is a member of the D&I WG
- The PSF: Iqbal requested that in the future each conference (local,
regional) have a 15 or 20 minutes session for the PSF to promote
itself and do membership drives.

Finally, an announcement:

It's time to think about hosting PyCon APAC 2022! I will prepare the
documentation and also schedule for proposals, voting and announcement
later this month, but if you have intentions to host APAC in 2022,
please start thinking about it. You can even start writing your
proposals: I expect the format will be similar to what we have in the
past: https://github.com/PyConAPAC/proposals

In terms of scheduling, I haven't discussed it with the PyCon APAC TH
team yet, but it might be great if we can announce the next hosts at
the end of PyCon APAC 2021 like we usually do. Anyway, I will send
another announcement once I have a new directory prepared for 2022 in
our GitHub repo.

In the meantime, take care and stay safe!

Good morning all,

Thanks for your continuing efforts in promoting Python and PyCon to the wider community.

One of the side items mentioned during yesterday's call was that while Singapore (sadly) has not have a local PyCon since 2020, we continue to run an Education Summit for educators (since 2015, taking an accidental break in 2017 because there also wasn't PyCon SG in 2017, and since then we have decided to keep Education Summit going regardless). As a small country, the group may be small but as long as people are still enthusiastic to participate, we hope to keep this annual event alive. So if you happen to know of educators in your country who may be interested, PyCon SG 2021 Education Summit is happening online on Tue 22 Jun PM (SGT). Tentative schedule and registration is available at https://tinyurl.com/pyconsg21edu and we definitely welcome your participation. :)

Since 2017, we also have a group of high school students who come together to organise a mainly Python focused Computing education outreach programme. We just concluded our conference last week at https://buildingblocs.sg. Sessions can be found at https://go.buildingblocs.sg/youtube

If you know of educators or students events happening and/or are interested to collaborate, please reach out to he...@buildingblocs.sg

On another shoutout, I am also happy to learn that PyCon HK will also be having an education track this year. CFP has been extended and is open until 14 Jun at https://pycon.hk

Thanks! :)

Hey Folks,
I hope you're staying healthy.

As we discussed at the previous meeting, PyCon APAC 2021 is waiting for a speaker from each of countries which we can recommend.
I wonder how many proposals at most we can recommend and how to provide these information to PyCon APAC, through the emails?
Please let me know the steps to recommend proposals for PyCon APAC, thanks!

Winnie

Dear Winnie,

I am not from the organising committee of PyCon APAC but this is what I copy from the email from the organiser previously.
You may find the information about submitting the recommended speakers and the submission form here.

I do have a question for the organiser myself: When the recorded videos from the speakers need to be sent to the organiser?

Thanks.

Thank you Ivy for helping out. :)
Hi Winnie,
Yes, the link Ivy sent is the one with all the details.

Just in case it's unclear,
- speakers submitted by organizers from APAC will not need to go through the normal CFP procedures since they are selected by you folks directly to represent your country.
- We suggest 2 or max 3 speakers from each country.
- Talks can be something that has been presented before and that is totally fine.
- Once you have selected your speakers, please fill in the details on this form: https://forms.gle/bTjDKiiwCNLekmHB6 . You do not need to go to the PyCon APAC CFP link on papercall.
- Please try to submit your list of speakers by 31 July.  If you need more time to submit your list of speakers, drop me an email and let me know.
- Note: It is not necessary to submit the video of the talks together with the form. We need the names and talk titles first to start sorting out the program agenda.
- Speakers will be able to prepare and submit their talks by 1st October.
- Every confirmed speaker will be provided with a speaker kit with more information. So once we receive the emails of the speakers you've submitted, they will receive the speaker kit shortly after.

Some updates from our side about PyCon APAC:

1. Our online event will be held on the Hubilo platform and each country organiser from APAC will get a booth to display contents about your community. You will get ample time to prepare and customise your booth and contents at least 3 weeks before the event.
2. Our offline event is tentatively under discussion and most likely held in True Digital Park. As you can see the current COVID situation has yet stabilise in Thailand, our venue host is well aware of that and more details will be updated around October.
If you have any other questions regarding the event, drop me an email at: geo...@pyconthailand.org

Thanks everyone!

Regards,
