1. Please send the signed and stamped referral and summary (which I already sent in a previous email, but I am also attaching it now) to the Dean’s Office (in accordance with the regulation) or to the Secretary for the 6th year students of the Faculty of Medicine, who is currently receiving the graduation theses and adjacent documents in the Dean’s name. Please send me an electronic copy of them.
2. If this is not possible electronically, please state why. If my physical presence is necessary, please state why and tell me when and where I should present myself to receive these documents (before 03:00 PM, 10th of September 2014 - deadline for submitting the documents).
3. If you do not wish to give me these documents, please state why.
4. Please reply in 20 hours, in order to have time to come to Bucharest for this matter, before the 10th of September deadline. I have also sent you an email on the 29th of August about these issues, to which I have never received a response.

Vă rog să-mi trimiteți o copie electronică a lor.
2. Dacă aceste lucruri nu se pot face electronic, vă rog să-mi spuneți de ce. Dacă prezența mea fizică este necesară, vă rog să-mi spuneți de ce, precum și locul și timpul la care să mă prezint pentru a primi aceste documente (înainte de ora 15:00, 10 septembrie 2014 - termen limită pentru depunerea documentelor).

In your meaning, mode "transparent" meant purely individualistic approach proposed theme without accepting any advice or correction of the tutors that have not kept in touch (link to an editable website to anybody who can not an acceptable work). Although we are sure the author of the license (not seeing at the front than at the beginning do not know what skills and knowledge you have in the field), I wrote a report and sent summary considering skipping that work is posted in a editable format.
These issues were presented in the referral and I have responded to them below.

“Lucrarea de față reprezintă o încercare de traducere a termenilor proveniți din limba latină din Terminologia Histologica (TH) – convenția internațională pentru termenii histologici – în limba română, cu ajutorul unor dicționare existente și accesibile online, respectând principiile computabilității.”
(GT:)This paper is an attempt to translate terms derived from Latin of Histology Terminology (TH) - International Convention for histological terms - in Romanian, using existing dictionaries available online, respecting the principles computabilităţii.
The translation algorithm uses online dictionaries (Google Translate) mainly for automatic matching and selection of the Romanian words from the manually collected 1539 terms from five Romanian publications and for demonstrating the consistency and correctness of the R functions included in the thesis.

(GT:)A minus point is the lack of responsiveness to student regarding appointments in the discipline for discussing and disseminating the results of this preference publication on a public group on Google Groups platform, defining the-initiative as a transparent method of working. We believe that, on the contrary this raises suspicions regarding the originality of the work, its presentation in the public space in an editable format argument can be raised just over transparency, anyone can access and modify this material without conviction on originality work and intellectual property.
I will demonstrate the transparency of my chosen process. Up until the 30th of August 2014, I was the only contributor to the editable version of the thesis. My contribution timestamps and edits (through the loredana...@gmail.com email address) can be viewed, as I have said before, with the Revision History option. On the 30th of August, 12:30 AM, Assist. Prof.Dr. Marius Rac-Albu ( through the rac...@gmail.com email address) made an edit on page 2, deleting a “4” and writing it back again (“București, 01.09.2014”).
This kind of transparency cannot be ensured by physical meetings if they are not filmed or recorded. I did not receive this kind of proposal from you. The editable version (found at https://docs.google.com/document/d/19GR2oOqCHePJ5lNXs3runAkDD-INixnhkKej4mqjtwc/edit?usp=sharing) is made public for viewing, but only signed in collaborators can edit. These collaborators have to be invited by the owner of the document and they can see who has rights for editing the document through the Share option. They can also see the detailed Revision History. Any oral discussion can be transferred into writing. Therefore, this process ensures the matching between the work and the email address of the contributor. The only question that remains is whether the email address was used or not by the alleged owner. This will be discussed below.

Publishing a paper only at the end of the creation process without publishing the creation process is not full transparency. Full transparency can be achieved only if the whole process of creation has a broadcasting channel of its own, that can save and rewind the process for anyone who wishes to review the creation of the paper or project. Unfortunately, I did not have this kind of platform for my paper, but I settled for the closest best that I knew of.

(GT:)We would have expected a direct collaboration between the student and the coordinator or thesis advisor by the physical presence of the student at the Department of Medical Informatics and Biostatistics to clarify certain aspects of how the composition of the thesis.
My understanding for this is that the coordinator and tutor have the responsibility to see if the ideas belonged to the student or not by physical interview. Where is this stated in the University regulations? Why not use video internet conferences which permit some transparent sharing of information (written or video) instead of forcing a student to be physically present to state something which can just as well be written? Why did you not offer alternatives to these issues or be open to them? What is your process for checking if the student actually writes the rest of the paper himself?

Besides my questions there were no attempts at understanding my work. And realising that Romania does not have something to offer on this subject, I found solutions on my own to the encountered problems. If you wanted a live, dynamic list of issues encountered and eventually solved, I could have provided it even though it would have been time consuming. Why did you not state clearly what it was expected from me, besides being physically present at meetings?

This, in my opinion is the only true issue in my process. However, in your approach of organising physical meetings, is the student supposed to work only in those meetings? Again: why can’t the meetings be held in writing, with a video camera, through the Internet?
My solutions for this issue are:
1. In my signed anti-plagiarism statement I will include the fact that I was the only owner and user of the loredana...@gmail.com email address, along with all the online accounts related to this address (GitHub, Google Docs, Google Groups etc.).
2. I expect challenges from the commission/board regarding my thesis, that can assess my detailed knowledge of the paper and its creation. Of course, I expect all the challenges to also be made in writing. Moreover, I expect the commission to offer their own graduation thesis publicly, in advance, and be prepared for replying to the same type of challenges. One can be judged only by individuals who already respect the imposed rules and can prove that. If we are judging transparency, the commission members should make their works and the process entailed, transparent. I have the right to know if the commission is appropriate for judging my work.

1. I have clearly stated that I “prefer” and not “impose” (original ro.:”impunerea”). I have clearly allowed Assist.Prof.Dr. Marius Rac-Albu to continue the discussion in Romanian, after his refusal to use the English language (https://groups.google.com/d/msg/public-witness/y92oNfFN9Yw/DtbNDFh8XkEJ).
2. The unacceptance for using English with Romanian students when foreign students are permitted to use English in all their university tasks can be viewed as discrimination.

I originally wanted to write the paper in English (“In addition, I intend to initially write the thesis in English.” - see the first link from point 3), but due to the fact that the University forces Romanian students to present their work in Romanian, I estimated that I would not have time to write the paper in both languages.

If not, I will attach my reply to the challenges of the referral when I submit my thesis and I will continue on the hierarchical path of the University until the issues referring to the transparency process are solved. In my understanding, there were no issues regarding the actual content and methods used in the thesis.
