I have a session in which I would like to insert a tempo curve over a two bar measure at the end of the song. I want to slow the tempo gradually from 147 BPM down to 126 BPM.
I made sure that all of my tracks were selected, then went into the tempo event dialogue window and selected the range over which I wanted the tempo to decrease, as well as the appropriate BPM settings.
However, when I scroll over to the apply button, it is dim and not available to click.
I have tried several different scenarios with track selection, but still cannot activate the apply button.
Any thoughts or suggestions on what I may be doing wrong or overlooking would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been able to make this work in the past, but it has been so long and I cannot remember if I did something different back then or not. Thanks again for any pointers.

Hi Alex,
Try changing "constant" to linear at the top left of the tempo window.
Make sure your tracks are elastic if your working with audio.
Now you should be able to apply the tempo "Retard" for your ending.
as long as you have a selection for start and end before you open up the tempo dialogue it will reflect that start and end in those fields.

Hi Alex,

First, track selection has nothing to do with tempo so you need not concern yourself with track selection in this case. If you've made a selection range, make sure you choose one of the tempo types first, in this case, Linear will do, enter the starting tempo and ending tempo and you should be able to apply the changes. Note that, after entering a value into an edit field, press Return for it to be fully inserted then proceed to the Apply button.

Slau

Hey guys, thanks so much for the feedback.
I've actually been selecting the linear option from the beginning, so
it must not be that.
Also, the only data I have recorded has been on instrument tracks,
although I do have an empty audio track for scratch vocals that hasn't
been tracked on yet.
I wonder if that may be causing the issue?
This one's got me scratching my head...

Hey,

I haven’t been following this very well. Do you have conductor enabled in the transport? I haven’t done a lot of tempo changes, actually none at all and I’m learning more and more as I go. But definitely make sure that the conductors enabled. This is probably something that you’re aware of already, but just a suggestion.

Respectfully,
Steve Baskis

Hey Steve, as a matter of fact, I did not have the conductor track selected. I did select that in the Midi control cluster, and it allowed me to make my tempo curve. However, it reset my overall project tempo to 120, instead of 147 and will not let me edit that with the conductor track selected.
I am sure I am just missing something simple, but do not have a clue what it is. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi Alex,
This whole subject is kind of big and you'd do well to red about the Conductor and tempo settings in the manual because it can range from simple to quite complex.
With the Conductor enabled, you can change the overall tempo of a session to a static value but ONLY if there are no tempo events in the tempo ruler. In other words, if you haven't created tempo events at all, you can change the overall tempo. Once you have created tempo events, you can make range selections and overwrite previous tempo changes. None of the tempo events will have any effect unless the Conductor is enabled. If you previously had your tempo set to 147 without the Conductor enabled and you want everything to be as it was before but now with the Conductor enabled so you can make tempo changes, you need to create a tempo event right at the top of your session and make the tempo 147 bpm. Once you've done that, the session will play back at 147 bpm until the place where you make your tempo change curve. Now, I'm not sure whether your attempt at making a tempo change resulted in any tempo information having been written and simply not active because the Conductor wasn't active. I've never created tempo changes without enabling the Conductor except when I was just editing a static tempo. It's probably best to simply start from scratch. Select your entire timeline and create a constant tempo of 147 bpm., apply that change then make your selection range for the linear curve you want, apply and continue.

Slau
