Hi Everyone,

I put together a PicoChess v4 image based on the latest RPiOS Lite image and specifically set up for the DGTPi for anyone who would like to test Johan's version 4 updates. Feedback is essential to allow Johan to modernize the code and ensure current functions (in v3) continue to operate as expected. Once the code-base is updated perhaps new enhancements can be added. Hopefully this image will allow more users to participate.

Please refer to the enclosed documents in the archive for details on getting up and running. This image contains the engine folder from my v3.3 Lite image as well as the books, voices and tablebase folders.

I would suggest that once you have PicoCHess up and running, and are connected to the internet, that you update to the latest code.

NOTE: when you update the first time (using the command-line or via the System/Power menu) it will take a while (approx. 15 minutes on a stock DGTPi) as a backup is made in the pi home folder, so please be patient; PicoChess will eventually start.

If you see any functionality issues or things not working as before and would like to let Johan know, either open a topic on this forum or, if you have a (free) GitHub account, you can open an Issue on Johan's repo (first check to see if it has already been mentioned).

Randy

Here's the question in English, ready to send to RandyR:

"Hi Randy,

Thanks for the new PicoChess v4 DGTPi Lite image! I'm excited to test it out.

Quick question: with the suggestion to update to the latest code after installation, does that mean the chess engines (like Stockfish) will also update to their latest available versions with that same code update?"

Hi Yuliesky,

No, the update only affects the PicoChess code, not any engines.

Randy

Hi Randy, is this image for the DGTPi the same one I should put on a Raspberry Pi to adapt a DGT 3000 clock..?

Hi Javier.

Yes, it will work in the Pi3 or Pi4 wired to a DGT3000.

Thanks Randy,

I just bought the DGT 3000, and I'm looking forward to adapting it to my Certabo board. I imagine there must be a thread or tutorial here that explains how to do the whole adaptation process... I want to do it right and I don't want to break it. 🙏

Yes. I've never done it myself but search through the forum (probably a few years ago) and there are posts that cover it. Or perhaps someone can share their steps/experience.
