Following S R Eglesfield's notes on the Dewing/Pettiward families https://groups.google.com/g/peerage-news/c/cAZkZyUiQ-o/m/GpRg4ACUCgAJ

I looked at the PETTIWARD gentry family and found that the sometime head Robert John PETTIWARD's entry in the 1937 BLG simply states he left nine daus without giving further details.

I decided to look into the daus and found them all listed in the 1871 census:

Richard's posting, above, provides much useful additional information.

Unfortunately, the details one might be looking for are sometimes missing from the pedigrees in Burke's Peerage and Landed Gentry, necessitating a search for other sources. So it is in relation to Lt-Col Alexander John WOGAN-BROWNE. I agree with Richard that he was probably of that family, of Castle Browne, which, per Burke's Family Index, last appeared in Burke's Landed Gentry of Ireland (BLGI) in the 1912 edition, but he is not to be found in the pedigree there.

The My Heritage website shows Lt-Col Alexander John Wogan-Browne to have been a brother of Antony WOGAN-BROWNE (25 X 1857 - 1943), who, per ancestry.com, was a son of Alexander Anthony Preston BROWNE (c.1830 - 2 VI 1898) and Mary Emily LAWRENCE. An item on the Bath Archives website shows Col Alexander Anthony Preston Browne as the sole executor of his mother's will, and his parents are shown there as Maj Anthony Wogan BROWNE and his wife, Jane (died 25 II 1873, aged 78). Col Browne's parents are shown on ancestry.com as Capt Anthony Wogan Browne (12 XI 1787 - 22 VII 1832) and his wife (married 8 X 1819), Jane CUPPAGE (4 VII 1794 - 1876), and this seems corroborative, despite the death date for his mother being incorrect.

The pedigree of the Wogan-Browne family in BLGI 1912 (see online at https://archive.org/details/genealogicalhera00burkuoft/page/76/mode/2up?ref=ol&view=theater&q=Wogan) includes an Anthony, who married "Mary, dau. of Gen. Cuppage"; it seems plausible that these could be the parents of Col Alexander Anthony Preston Browne (although his mother's name was Jane, rather than Mary), but I can find nothing to corroborate this.

Col Alexander Anthony Preston Browne's mother, Jane CUPPAGE (4 VII 1794 - 25 II 1873), does not appear in the pedigree of that family in Burke's Irish Family Records 1976. However, it seems clear from other sources that she was a daughter of Gen Alexander CUPPAGE (c.1761 - 7 I 1848), who is shown there, and his wife (married 3 XI 1789), Clarinda BRUCE (c.1770 - c.1846), daughter of Col Thomas BRUCE and sister of Maj-Gen Sir Charles BRUCE, KCB (24 III 1777 - 1832).

Maj-Gen Sir Charles Bruce was the husband (married 14 VII 1818) of Charlotte FORBES (1794 - 26 III 1861) of that landed gentry family, of KIngareloch (N.B. per Burke's Family Index, this family last appeared in BLG in the 1854 edition, but they can be found in the 1879 edition online at https://ukga.org/browse.php?action=ViewRec&DB=33&bookID=222&page=blg187900583), and they were the parents of (Sarah) Charlotte BRUCE (10 V 1832 - 30 VIII 1906), the wife (married 13 IX 1860) of the Rt Hon Sir Henry CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN, GCB (7 IX 1836 - 22 IV 1908), Prime Minister, 1905-08.
