This is not "news", but I came across it while looking into the Wichfeld family.

Varinka Wichfeld Muus, a Danish resistance fighter with aristocratic British as well as Danish connections:

Varinka Wichfeld Muus
9 February 1922-18 December 2002

She was a Danish resistance fighter with an interesting career:

Her father was Jørgen Adalbert Wichfeld (1885-1966), of a Danish noble family, and her mother was Monica Emily Massy-Beresford (1894-1945), of that LG Family. Monica's mother was Hon. Alice Elizabeth Mulholland, dau of Lord Dunleath.

Varinka's brother was married to Lady Angela Drummond.

A member at Nobliana has added the following interesting comments:

"Varinka Corina Wichfeld came from a family with many interesting connections, which was already evident at her christening, as her godparents included Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich of Russia, Prince Aage of Denmark and Count Court Haugwitz-Hardenberg-Reventlow (later husband of Barbara Hutton). She has recounted her fascinating life in the book "Fra solskin til tusmørke" (1994)."

Thanks you very much for this.

Both my late mother and my late father has/have direct ancestors common with Varinka Corina de Wichfeld (Muus). My late father also had/have many common with her husband Flemming Bruun Muus.

The Muus family was an important Odense City business family – owning a large agriculture trading house, Elias B. Muus, which  had a global seed business.

Varinka and her husband Flemming went into exile in Stockholm, Sweden. Here they continued their resistance work with among others civil engineer Erling Foss.

Erling Foss was the youngest son of Frederikke Margrethe Foss nee Schultz and civil engineer Einar Alexander Foss, one of the co-founders of the global cement engineering group F.L Smidth & Co. (FLS) – owner of among other Tunnel Portland Cement in the UK, Cement Ltd. In Ireland and later also Anglo Nordic Holdings and Freeland Investment – later active in Australia and New Zealand – in the UK, my great-grandmother’s Esther Margrethe Sadolin nee Schultz, cousin.

Except 1943-1946, Erling Foss was the Chairman of the Board of Sadolin & Holmblad Ltd., a global paint and coating, printing inks, adhesive, pigment and agrochemical group, founded by my great-grandfather Gunnar Asgeir Sadolin, who before this was a painter (artist) and my great-grandmother and owned together with Einar Alexander Foss – and later his children, from 1930 and until 1970.

In Denmark, Sadolin & Holmblad manufactured the various oil applications for Burmah Castrol for the Nordic countries. In the UK, Sadolin & Holmblad had Sadolin UK Ltd. – especially wood care products, Sadolin Printing Inks Ltd., Runnymede Dispersions Ltd. and Bell Dispersions Ltd., pigment factories, and the 50/50 joint venture Tennant-KVK Ltd. in with Charles Tennant & Sons Ltd.

Much of Sadolin & Holmblad’s British and Irish businesses were related to Erling Foss’ cooperation with the British intelligence services during WWII, of which some of the people  later became business people.

My late grandmother, Bodil Sadolin nee Mayland, were a friend of Varinka Corina de Wichfeld Muus.

Link to Varinka Corina de Wichfeld Muus in my database:

Do anyone here knows of Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish people being directly or indirectly related to British (and Irish) peerage and baronetage?

The present Duchess of Gloucester  ( born Birgitte Eva van Deurs Henriksen)  is Danish.  She was born in Odense.

The only son (and ha) of the Duke and Duchess, the Earl of Ulster, is therefore half Danish.

Thanks Brooke,

I am aware of this connection, and I have a funny story about it, which I might share later.
