Has anyone paddled the West St. Marys or Twelve Mile Stream of late?  I am looking for some weekend/long weekend-type trips closer to home (Upper Stewiacke).

Hi Alan,

Noah Booth, Dave Green, and I paddled the Twelve Mile Stream last spring. Noah put together a nice little video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2fqHQv8OP8

We put in at the bridge southwest of Abraham Lake and we did a bit of walking and dragging on the first day, but it's passable. We camped at an old logging site and passed another bridge early the next day that would likely be a better place to start as the paddling was much better the second day. I'd go back for the lower portion again for sure.

Cheers,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the info.  The upper section sounds nicer than the Fish River in August (it was supposed to be an April trip :) ).  That is my measure for reconsidering a trip, and then I might go anyway if there are rumours of decent trout numbers.  I might give the upper bit a go just to get the night of camping in.
Hard to imagine that as I woke  up to -14 today, opening day of trout season is a mere two weeks away.  If you or someone you know is interested drop me a line.  Even if the timing doesn't work for me, I can probably sort shuttles.
Cheers,
Al

I am interested in such a trip.  I have not paddled that river before.

Excellent John - do you have a preference to time of year?  I am partial to early May, hoping for more fish to have moved into the stream.  However, I am flexible.

On another note, Ten Mile Stream (to the west - see attached map) looks interesting, albeit possibly the "a lot more work than I intended" form of the word interesting...

Hi Al,

We took out at the northeast end of Marshall Flowage. There's a road that branches off Hwy 374 that's got reasonable access. We had to pull up over a beaver dam right next to a small bridge. Really looking forward to April 1 as well!

Cheers,
Jeff
