Hi All,

Four years ago I wrapped up the OpenScneGraph-3.6.5 stable release and dived into the development of the VulkanSceneGraph, an all new C++17 scene graph written for Vulkan API, and now have completed all the major features required for it's 1.0.

The project is now Feature Complete, but I haven't yet declared a Feature Freeze as I want to give the VulkanSceneGraph and OpenSceneGraph communities an opportunity to test it out, and if there are issues found we can then address before 1.0 or schedule the work a subsequent releases.

What does this all mean for OpenSceneGraph users?

Both OpenSceneGraph and VulkanSceneGraph will continue to co-exist going forward, you can choose to port to VulkanSceneGraph or adopt it for new projects, mix and match both scene graphs in a single application (see screenshot below of the vsgwithosg example in the gl_interability branch of vsgExamples) or just stay using OpenSceneGraph.

Now that I have completed the bulk of the work for VulkanSceneGraph-1.0 my availability to take on OpenSceneGraph client and open source work will open up.

I've just spent nearly 6 months working unpaid to get the VulkanScenGrapph Feature Complete so I'm not in position to just jump back into the OpenSceneGraph project and spend another six months working full time but unpaid getting a new stable releases out the door, though that's really what the OpenScenegraph needs...

So I'm looking to work with companies/organizations that use the OpenSceneGraph/VulkanSceneGraph to help fund my time jumping between the two projects.  Just like I have for the past 21 years I provide support contacts, consulting, bespoke development and training services, the income from which gives the ability to do things like spend 6 months dedicated to pure open source work - you get use my skills/experience on your projects and enable my efforts on the open source projects.   I can be contacted directly on rob...@openscenegraph.com.

I'll write a separate thread here on osg-uses about my plans for OpenSceneGraph development.

If you have questions about VulkanSceneGaph there is the vsg-users google group that you can join.  I can also answer some high level questions here, especially if they touch on OpenSceneGraph/VulkanSceneGraph migration or integration topics.

Cheers,
Robert.
