Jim,

The Lodestar X2 works well with PHD2.

You have two options for connecting to the camera in PHD2: the SX Camera ASCOM driver or the native built-in driver, Starlight Xpress SXV.  See this post for an explanation of the differences.

I have the just purchased same guide camera, do I need to tick the square pixel box in set up? Thanks Steve

Steve,

The main case where square pixels would be required would be if you are using a rotator, so that the calibration rates are not affected by rotation. (Even then, the pixels are close enough to square that it probably makes little difference.)

Otherwise, without a rotator, it does not make much difference whether you check the option or not. In the UI, when phd2 reports guide error in units of arc-seconds, there is a small inaccuracy in the display if you do not square the pixels since phd2 simply multiplies the error in pixels by the arcsec per pixel factor to get arc-seconds. This is just a display / reporting issue, guiding is not affected.

Thanks Andy,

I am using a LX200 12 ACF on a wedge in an observatory. trying get into astro. I am using the ST-4 connection on scope panel (not ASCOM yet). When I set up what should I have in the 3 boxes.

I have loadstar SX in top window

on Camera in mid window

I am at a loss what should be in the Aux port window. ?

So far I been unable to calibrate. no problem with darks but Calibrate is always appearing yellow.  Please excuse my ignorance but a newbie.

Hi Steve,  I think Andy's away for a few days.  Have you read through all the help file info on how to connect your gear and get through basic calibration?  There's a lot of info there, I think it should help.

http://openphdguiding.org/documentation/

Bottom line, without having the ASCOM driver installed for your mount, you can't use the aux-mount feature, and you'll have to re-calibrate every time you slew the scope.

Bruce
