Hi guys,
Some stuff that might help re the promotion end of things and to fill you in on what AONTAS is doing – as you know your festival coincides with the national adult learners’ festival that we are organising. We have an advertising campaign running promoting adultlearnersfestival.com where we’ve listed all your workshops separately. (We now have about 350 events happening nationwide including your events) We’ve gotten a bit of a plug in the Indo and the Times, also we’ve got a slot on the Morning Edition programme on RTE on Monday morning to promote the Festival in general and the range of events happening. I’ve sent in information to the weekend magazines, (not sure how we’ll get on but we’ll see. Also sent a piece into RTE’s Drivetime programme (they do a good ‘here comes the weekend slot promoting events for the upcoming week at the end of the show). I have included details of your event in this material so fingers crossed.
We also work with a pretty good photographer(who releases our photos to national and local press)- I mentioned to Gareth that I can get him down to Seomra Spraoi one of the days to take some photos. Would need to be something visual (aerobics might work, or something involving props or equipment). We can then release these, particularly some of the Dublin papers would most likely pick them up (usually the likes of Metro herald etc love this stuff). I also have a pretty good contacts list and we can issue a press release from here specific to your event (with your contact details on it) – probably would have to be Tuesday though as we have an awards ceremony happening Monday that we will be pushing PR wise.
Let me know what you think,
niamh

I've been using the following notice for promo, emails, fb etc. Feel free
to use if you are contacting anyone - no point reinventing the wheel!
Open Learning Ireland's first week-long festival, full of free talks
and workshops and an interactive hacklab, takes place in Seomra
Spraoi, Dublin 1, from the 25th February to 2 March 2013. The event
provides the public, regardless of their age or qualifications, to
come along and "Learn Something, Share Something, Do Something" in a
relaxed, friendly and fun environment. Science, sitcom writing,
hacking, radio production, aerobics, bike-making, philosophy, human
rights and language classes are just some of the activities on offer!
For more info check out the schedule at

I was thinking it would be handy to keep track of
organisations/blogs/publications already contacted regarding promo and to
share ideas of other people we can contact ahead of next week to promote
beforehand and/or cover during. Between myself, Gareth and Seb the
following have been contacted so far:
writing.ie
Upstart
Anseo
Inside View
Darragh Doyle
Broadsheet.ie
Thejournal.ie
Scibernia
Communicate Science
A Year of Festivals
Science Calling
NCAD
Gaiety School Blog
National Performing Arts School
Various drama groups/schools
University clubs and societies (as many as have available comtact emails
across UCD, TCD, Maynooth, DCU, Surgeons)
Fringe Festival Organisers
TOG
Dublin Writers Forum
Being Young and Irish (youth group with about 200 members)
Plus a lot of facebook activity...
Will be contacting a few newspapers later today and early tomorrow. If
anyone has more suggestions of places/people to contact add them below.

It would be good to have a stock of posters and/or fliers at the event so
that if it is ever quiet and we have a spare volunteer or two we can send
them out to keep up with promo. Then as we said at the meeting printing out
schedules to give to people who come along would also be good. That's all I
can think of.
