Natalie’s Corner Splashpad Grand Opening Ceremony
Saturday, August 16
The City of Davis and the Natalie Corona Committee invites the community to the grand opening of Natalie’s Corner Splashpad honoring Davis Police Officer Natalie Corona who was killed while on duty in 2019. The event will take place on August 16 from 10-11 a.m. in Central Park near the stage by the carousel.
The splash pad and surrounding areas reflect the spirit of Officer Corona. It is a place of remembrance, joy and celebrates Natalie.
Natalie’s Corner Splashpad features:
· Free splash pad water feature and gathering space for all ages
· Ultraviolet water treatment and landscaped bio-filtration system
· Water-efficient landscaping, including new pollinator gardens
· Native and drought-tolerant plant identification signs
· Artwork reflecting the positive nature of Natalie’s life and character while harmonizing with the Splashpad’s environmentally-friendly and family-focus
· Added benches, picnic tables, low-wall seating, and shade structures
· Educational signage
These improvements are funded by a $2.784 million Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Grant, City Park Impact fees and community donations. The water feature is accessible to persons with disabilities and complements the existing universal playground.
The City of Davis created the Natalie Corona Committee to recommend a place of remembrance for Officer Natalie Corona and to secure the necessary community donations to complete the project. The Committee is a community-based group led by former Senator and Mayor Lois Wolk. The Committee set a fundraising goal of $500,000. The Committee raised $560,776 to date in community and brick donations. The Committee is continuing their fundraising efforts.
