Hi OncoTree,

At some point since early 2025 the names of the following diseases were changed.  The words "cell" or "lymphoma" or "excess blasts" used to be capitalized but now they are lower case.  But the change was not applied globally-- it was just to these diseases.  Was this intentional?
  • ABC (Activated B-cell Type)
  • BCLU (B-Cell Lymphoma, Unclassifiable, with Features Intermediate between DLBCL and Classical Hodgkin lymphoma)
  • EMALT (Extranodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma of Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT lymphoma))
  • HSTCL (Hepatosplenic T-cell Lymphoma)
  • MDSEB1 (MDS with excess blasts-1)
  • MDSEB2 (MDS with excess blasts-2)
  • PTCL (Peripheral T-Cell lymphoma, NOS)
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

Thanks for reaching out and for pointing this out.

I took a look through previous versions of OncoTree but wasn’t able to identify the capitalization changes for those specific diseases. I may be looking at a different version or missing the context you’re seeing, so I’m happy to take another look if you’re able to share an example or where you noticed this.

In general, there hasn’t been an intentional update affecting those terms. That said, we are currently working on updates to the Lymphoid and Myeloid trees, and some disease names will be revised to better align with the latest WHO classifications. This may include various adjustments to naming conventions.

Best,

Rima

Hi Rima,

Thanks for the response.  I noticed the issue because i had saved the output of the API from previous versions and did a diff.  This made the capitalization changes apparent, even if currently on the website the older versions don't seem to reflect it (it seems that the capitalization was corrupted even in older versions somehow).

In any case, this also caused the capitalization to be inconsistent.  HSTCL is the only disease with "T-cell" instead of "T-Cell".  Similar for the other examples I sent.

Thanks,
