Here's the Theme I currently use (the .mlthm file). It's intended to help the user to focus on the active actions. While items which are not active (folders, future actions or completed actions) are in a light grey font, the eye is drawn to the active actions in the green font. Projects are highlighted by making them blue font. I've also got rid of the pseudo 3D standout effect of gradient fills on due dates, replacing them with simple blocks of feint blue for future due items strong blue for "due soon" and a dark red for overdue items (less "in your face" than the original, bright red). My list often still has a lot of overdue items...
The complete view uses my icons, in positions 0-3, to indicate project status, context (GTD contexts, cf David Allen's GTD) and flag (for roles and goals, cf Stephen Covey's "7 Habits"). I've also attached that .mlaf file.
