Dark theme/dark mode for the Windows version

Hi,

Is there a fully dark theme/dark mode available?

I know I can create new theme to change font color,background etc but what I am looking for is a fully dark mode application like the Windows 10 file explorer in dark mode.

View/Outline sidebar, properties panel, tab bar, Menu bar etc in dark mode.

The whole application in dark mode. Please..

Seconded. On a big screen, MLO is giving me a tan even with darkening all the options.

I have just run across WindowTop which has a dark mode function and am running MLO5 in Win10 z64.

Think my system is reasonably powerful but the CPU use is spiking when using it though and the fan is kicking in. Generally I don't hear the fan since I don't run any heavy applications. Looks like the application use quite a bit of CPU resource in my system in order to repaint/change colors to generate the dark mode on the fly. If the window is minimized, CPU use is low but once maximized it goes up.

Virustotal seem to indicate that it is safe when I scanned the the files but there is a comment from May 2018 on Makeuseof mentioning cryptominer in the files.   I hope that is not the case anymore. Developer says it is safe in a reply to a youtube video comment.

I am using it on Win10 x64 i5 8gb, runs 28 mg memory, 15-18% CPU.

There are AutoHotKey scripts that darken the screen around a window. I have tried to figure out how to reverse that so the window is selectively dimmed, no joy.

Thanks for the info. I hope Andrey would add a Dark Mode to the application with an update so that it is native. 

There could even be one dark mode built in and additional dark themes (i guess) for purchase. Like a theme marketplace. Guess it is WindowtTop till then.

Do you know how to change the background color for the tasks that are highlighted when you move the cursor up and down, but have not clicked yet?

I have been looking in all the settings but cannot find it

since the fonts are in bright yellow and the highlighted rows are clear purple, it is hard to read until either you click on it or you move the cursor away.

Think if you play around with the selection tab under the tree format you can get a color that works. I am  on 4.4.6. Not sure how it is on the newer versions.

Got a trial of V5 . All the themes i  previously uploaded are virtually unusable in V5. The white horizontal lines makes it unusable. Took me a while messing around (may be I should have asked support) but think we have them in usable mode now.

Issue you brought up about the white background on mouse over is not solved. Don't think I know how to fix that. Attached are update to your theme and other dark themes previously uploaded. Edited out the long names.

Seem like it is harder to do themes in V5. Without dark themes, for me  V5 looks like what you see when you look out the window on a foggy day.

As far I know, key to get rid of the white lines/border is to update the auto formatting rule with the custom condition/rule I have below. There may be other ways.

I couldn't agree more.  MLO seriously needs a fully dark theme.  The only ones available are super bright and burn my eyes.  Just about every other app I use now has a dark mode, as does Windows itself, so opening this app is like getting a halogen spotlight shined directly in my eyes.  I don't intend to sound like a jerk, but this is a very small feature and MLO is not exactly a free OSS app.  People have been asking for this for almost tow years now - how difficult is it?  At the very LEAST, create a few darker themes and make them available free/included with the default install.  Thanks.

Yes! This will definitely need to be a feature for version 6. Dark mode is so much easier on the eyes.

Dark mode is not easier on the eyes at all - I find it painful, and there is much research showing that dark mode makes it harder to read and causes eyestrain.

Not every single app needs a dark mode. MLO already has fully customizable themes.

Try light mode for a bit - your eyes will thank you!

I find dark mode very helpful on my eyes. However, usually dark mode is implemented in most apps as a feature that can be turned on and off, not something that is permanent. For the apps that I use that have implemented it, every one of them has offered it as an option that needs to be turned on. I'm sure Andrey knows that not everyone will want it. After all, he made it optional in the mobile app.

I completely agree that any dark mode should be able to be turned on and off easily.  I don't think anyone wants it to be only one way or the other.

I've never seen any such research, but it doesn't matter.  Different people like different things.  Happily, it's easy to accommodate everyone by simply having a toggle.  People who want Dark Mode can use it.  People whop don't like it don't have to.  It hurts you not at all to have them add the mode

Why not?  What does it hurt?  What if MLO *ONLY* had a Dark Mode?  Hoe would you feel?

In any case, you are in the minority, since it's getting hard to find apps that do NOT have Dark Mode because everyone loves it so much.

You can customize the text color to some extent, although the process is absurdly complex.  But you absolutely cannot change the color of the app itself.

Try light mode for a bit - your eyes will thank you!

Well, duh, just like everyone else I *HAVE* been using bright mode for the past 30 or so years because there was no choice.  Did you think I didn't know what it looks like?  So much brightness is horrible and gives me headaches as my eyes strain to pick out the letters against such a  bright background.  The contrast is awful and makes thing super hard to read, especially if the text is small.  I'm guessing you are a young person and haven;'t yet realized that as your body ages, things don't work as well - things like your eyes.  Let me know when you're 55 or so and have to squint like crazy just to read the tiny font sizes and zero-contrast nonsense modern designer use to try to look cool.  "Hey, a white font, micro-sized, agaisnt a light grey background!!  That should bd perfectly readable!"
Try turning the brightness on your monitor all the way, reduce the font size in half, and change the font color to only a few shades darker than the background.  See how you like it.
