I get an increasing number of action items via texting/messaging. But the basic texting apps (as well as other messaging apps e.g. FB Messenger and WhatsApp) do not have very good (fast / flexible) ways of managing them or distributing them.

The very minimum of features I am looking for are:

1) A way to flag a message or conversation so that I remember to follow up. There is a difference between "fluff" social conversations and an action item - something I need to revert on or respond to soon. It could be as simple as "starring" it like I do with Gmail messages I want to respond on soon - but not a big enough deal to make it an action item in MLO. (Or I want to flag it so that I DO remember to transfer it to MLO later).

2) An EASY way to forward a single message to MLO as an action item. Yes, I can select "forward to" and type in the email address but it is a bit tedious in the few apps I have seen. Also, the way my network provider handles it, I can't control the title of the mail and so on. Even worse when it is MMS length - they forward a link to some webpage where I can view the message.
A really fast way to forward to a predefined or easily selected email address would be an improvement.
But the best way I can think of, is an app that can SHARE a message to other apps on the phone. (To MLO directly - or I have a share-to app that can forward all shares to a pre-defined email address. The paid version lets me set up a list of these to choose from quickly. This fits other purposes than MLO also).

I don't need a big, bloated app (on my crammed up phone) with animations, themes etc. etc. - just these basics.
The various descriptions / reviews of the apps do not really emphasize this (they focus on the fancy stuff) so that's why I ask in here.

I also believe that any input on this would benefit other "productivity people" in here.

Agreed this is very important. I use Google Messenger

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging&hl=en

If you longtap a single message it highlights it and shows a menu bar. One of the menu choices is Share. Tap the MLO icon and the next thing you see is the MLO task edit page with the full text of the message in the task note and a truncated copy in the task title.

You can't share a conversation or multiple messages to a single task, but a long message that's broken into multiple SMS'S for transmission is reassembled by Messenger and shown as a single message that shares nicely.

Text sent to a group via MMS also shares nicely. Pictures and videos sent via MMS are sharable but not to MLO. But you can share them to Evernote and then share the Evernote to MLO. It's a bit clumsy but it gets the job done.

Biggest drawback: MLO doesn't know who sent the message. So if it's not obvious from reading the message, you might be challenged  to figure out who to get back to when the task is complete.
