I've been following the mailing list and someone did recently
talk about this problem. I'm sorry to hear it happened again but I
am grateful for your details because it helps me see where it is
going wrong. I am hoping the MLO team can see from this where they
could put in something to detect this situation and not think they
are new tasks. I will say that if you find the older posts it
might help you figure out how to isolate all of the duplicate
tasks by creation date and delete them.
Apparently the important thing we must learn is to not assume that upgrading still keeps track of what tasks are new or are from the previous online sync. Before syncing an upgraded thing, remember that you need to decide which place is the one true copy of all your tasks. Is it the file on the laptop, file on the desktop, or the actual online instance that you have been syncing with? Advice in a recent post said that because you are syncing everything to online location, that online instance should be the only place you take your tasks from. That would mean that your new installation needs to start with a blank new file (none of your tasks should be there). Then you set up sync, and it fills your new installation with all the tasks from your online repository.
Sorry I've not got this all set up so I can't stand by what I
said, but that's how they said it needs to work. I don't do
syncing yet and maybe I'm delaying it until I can see if they fix
this or help to avoid it. Always keep a backup of the old way
before you try new things in case you have to go back; that's my
policy.
So when MLO 5 for windows came out with the Google Calendar sync I was ecstatic. I've used it since to much success. However, when I first tried it I turned on google sync from my work machine laptop. Everything synced exactly as expected. Then I synced the data from my personal laptop. After adjusting some dates I used the Google calendar sync a second time and it read all the events on my Google calendar as new events - it duplicates all tasks and stuck them in my inbox leaving me with a mess to sort out. My question is whether or not Google Sync is designed to be used with multiple computers and I'm potentially doing something wrong or if it's an issue with how I set up my Google calendars? (it's very possible I had different settings and that is what caused the break) I've been scared to try it since it didn't work and have just been using the calendar sync button with a single laptop ever since. Is there a way to use it on two machines or is it only meant to be done on one?
Thanks in advance! :)
