Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows how to postpone a recurring task. I
don't mean "skipping recurrence", I want to postpone a monthly
recurring task by a couple of days so that it doesn't appear in
today's to-do list.

Thanks!

I think the only way to this is to open up the Task Recurrence box and make
an adjustment there. This is what I do.

I would certainly vote for a 'Postpone recurring task' mechanism of some
sort which makes a temporary adjustment to the current due date of a tasks
for the current recurrence without affecting date of the next occurrence.

I do it with MLO Hotkeys:

I have recently added some scripts to increase/decrease the due and
start dates of any task, recurring or not. Just press Ctrl - or Ctrl =
to change the due date or Ctrl [ or, Ctrl ] for the start date.

It's a new feature but it works quite reliably so far.

Note that there is a requirement to have your computer display short
dates in YYYYMMDD format at the moment.

Hmm.. although if you only want to postpone the single instance and
not change the overall pattern then it doesn't do that.

It's probably not that hard to do a script to skip the current
occurrence then make a single copy of the task and set the date a day
or two forward.

Hmm a "snooze" function a la Outlook.

Looks like that's a "no" then! Definitely a desirable feature, quite
often I need to "snooze" a task for a day or 2, without changing the
overall recurrence pattern.

I think the magic word in this case is "defer" and the action should
be to move the due date/time for the current task by the requested
time period (without affecting the recurrence pattern where its by
date). This is something I would like too.

I was about to ask for the same thing. I currently handle this by marking the task as "hide in todo" and adding a reminder for a few days later, when I manually remove the "hide in todo" flag again. It is workable, but some automatic defer functionality that keeps the recurrence pattern intact would be nice indeed.

I postpone them by adding a subtask called DELETE THIS TASK. I can then set the date I want it to appear. Then when it appears I simply delete and then my recurring task is on the list.

I think is is a much needed feature - MLO need these kind of things that make it work in the real world for people busy with things other than configuring and scripting MLO ;-)
