I have lots of stuff in my INBOX. I go and change the context and they are still there. Once I have assigned a task to a context I expect it to be gone from my Inbox.

The inbox is just like any other folder in your hierarchy, which means you need to move the item from your inbox to its appropriate location.  It would not work for me if when I put a context on it and it left the inbox, since I want it in a specific location in my hierarchy.  I personally have my hierarchy by project (alphabetically) and all sub-tasks under that.  I have views that show by context, which includes the inbox.

Hi, Steve. Like Elizabeth, most people who have used MLO for a while find it really useful to organize their tasks into folders - especially when you get to the point of having hundreds (or thousands?) of tasks captured in your profile. It makes it a lot easier to find and manage your tasks. But when people are starting out and don't have a lot of tasks yet, it can seem like moving a new task to a folder when you add the context is just extra work. If you are at that point you can certainly keep all of your tasks in the inbox. But then, when you want to look at just the new stuff you can't just look at tasks in the inbox.

So here is a starter tip for task filtering. Do you have a sidebar on the left side of your screen? If not, hit alt/f1 to show the sidebar. Is the title at the top of the sidebar "views"? if so, click on the word "views" in the sidebar title to bring up the details of your current view.

(The most useful view at this point is All Tasks and you might want to take this opportunity to switch to the All Tasks view but its not required)

Under the view name in the left sidebar you should see a header that says "filter" followed by a series of subheads with names like General, Text, Flags and so on. Each of these sections has the ability to filter your task list to show just a subset of the tasks. Look for the subhead that says "Contexts". Under this subhead will be a list of your defined contexts starting with (all) and (none). (If you don't see the list, it's probably collapsed. Click on the word "Contexts" to expand it.) OK, here we go: click on the line that says (none) and all the tasks that have had contexts assigned will instantly vanish from your view! Later you can click on the line that says (all) and all those hidden tasks will re-appear. Later, as you get more comfortable with MLO and filtering you can explore the other filters, including the advanced filter which lets you build wonderfully precise filters for your own personal way of managing your tasks, and you can save filters to add them to the list of views. Come on back to this forum if you need help with your custom/saved filters.
