Dear Dr Yasmin,
I am a teacher with passion....or should i say an ex-teacher with
passion on teaching.
I have to leave teaching line......simply because:
We are bombarded with too much unnecessary paper work, courses, and
projects that i dont see any value-added to myself and also students.
1. On Ko-K: When students are forced to take up 3 Ko-k activities,
there is little interest cultivated, but extra work added to teachers.
What is the meaning of having all the activities being evaluated with
points/marks? I still remember those days when we are free to choose
and would usually settle with 1 or 2 activities in school, there is so
much fun and leadership qualities cultivated.
2. On paper work:
- writing unnecessary and redundant Buku Rekod(now it is even worst
where teachers are told to write individual records for each period)
---- this looks real good on PAPER, but where is the crux of teaching?
3. On kursus(courses):
- Why spend money on makan and good hotel and most of all leave a
whole bunch of monkeys in the school unattended?
- The worst case is, all these courses doesnt really uplift a
teacher's profession. Most (and should i say ALL) are just held to
make up for the TEACHER TRAINING budget. I wouldnt say this is the MOE
problem but i would refer this to the job of the top notch leader of
Satu Malaysia!
4. On ever changing system
- Politics has been creating a hell of havoc to teachers! Every
political change it will bring to new things added to education and
none is taken away! If they are being changed, it is always under
personal interest and not for the whole nation.
- For example, the existence of 001 card, making PPSMI come and go,
SAPS and ePangkat came under poor tender project of software
development.
- My personal advice to all teachers involved in SAPS and ePangkat is
- BOYCOTT this! And get the software development team to key in the
info! That way they will understand how bad our nation's tender
project has become! If we were to dig further, may i know who is the
owner of the project? Please show your face and rectify this instead
of letting the teachers suffer for the mistake that one has been.
Otherwise, on hold the project first and let the team work out on the
software. Afterall, all the info has always been in hard copy.
- How can education improved? In my humble but firm opinion, please
make all the ministers and datuks children to study compulsory in
government school(not under any Yayasan or what not, but firmly only
Public school). Then only they will have better idea.
- Dont just do evaluation(pemantauan) like a big head walking around
and giving more jobs to others. Be a underground watchdog to the
system.
Here are just some of my notes.
I will put up more.
Thanks and best regards, Khoo
