By popular demand, this group has almost no moderation of any kind. We pre-screen new member posts to ensure they are MV-related. Other than that the moderators here don't touch the forum. Unfortunately that leads to chaos, and business-oriented members leaving this business-oriented group. This (re)post is intended as a reminder of best practices to help keep content on-point.
- If you get forum posts in a digest in email, please do not respond from there. It looks awful to everyone else.
-
Please eliminate anything from your post that is not relevant to your
response. Just include relevant context. We've already seen the rest and
can go back if desired.
- Specifically, if you get posts by email, please eliminate "you have received this email..."
trailers and other artifacts from Google. It's not "content" that
anyone wants to see.
- Conversely, please do provide some context in your replies, quote someone else or we may not understand what's on your mind.
-
Finally, I thank everyone for using [AD] for ads. It's appropriate and
works well. For those who do not like to see ads, just filter them out
of your email feeds, and ignore them in the list of threads in the
Google web page. Having said that, I think you'll miss a lot of lively
discussion. :)
------------------------------
... I encourage everyone to consider whether their contribution lends itself to a new discussion post. I
think the decision for such things is : Might my new content contain
valuable content that might be lost under a seemingly unrelated subject?
There's nothing wrong with breaking off a
new post from a
discussion. I believe it's better for all of us, especially when we find
threads in discussions going more than 3 levels deep. Obviously
something more nuanced is being discussed there.
A new post:
- allows us to give a topic a proper subject, better than changing the subject of a sub-thread within another post.
- allows us to tag that discussion separately.
- facilitates rapid searching
- helps to keep the main discussion focused for those who are interested in the original topic.
- keeps a thread from becoming one of those infinite digressions that many people don't want to read.
This isn't a directive, it's just a suggestion for improving our content for a wide variety of preferences and temperaments.
Thanks.
