the reason I found it so quick is because I've been reading the previous
postings in the mozilla.general newsgroup. There is/are some very funny
Shenanigans going on in that group.

And once again Brian, you have confused me with someone else. I am NOT
Andreas, Andy, or gwtc, or anyone else whom you may confuse me with. If
you read the mozilla.general newsgroups, then you'd know that Andreas
told you all to F-off. As I have said I am Grant. Do you want a last
name? Its McPeters. And I live nowhere near Vancouver. You want more?
I'm married, I have two sons and 2 daughters. However, my wife has
had 4 sons and 2 daughters, but thats another story. And I'm retired.

The fact that Jay refuses to remove my name, doesn't change the fact

No, I don't think one can make that deduction in fairness. Just because
a web page hasn't been updated does not make a person a "liar".

How about we all leave this alone, and get on with the business of again
being helpful?

And, Grant, no hard feelings from/towards me, at least, 'K???

I am marking this as deteriorated as in my view carrying on in this

Nice recovery on playing off the implicit ambiguity of 'this poster', altho'
I'd venture that most readers would read 'this poster' as being reflexive.

I'm kinda curious about a few things, tho'.

TTBOMK, the only time I've mentioned geography to you was in the context of
your mis-spelling of 'criteria', when I wondered if you were trying to give
the B.C. education system a bad name, so why specifically mention Vancouver
in replying to me?

How, even as a putative retiree, do you find the time to read back months
upon months in these newsgroups?

And, finally, TTBOMK, Irwin has done you (Toon Boy -- for the sake of
argument, I'm taking you at your word that you are not Andreas/Andy/gwtc) no
harm and, AFAICT, bears you no ill will . . . so why the sudden and
seemingly uncalled-for vehemence of your attack on him if there is no prior
history between the two of you?

Just wond'rin'. . . .

Good Point. I love Mozilla news groups, however I just don't have the
time to keep up on the *new* posting more or less going back. I think he
slows down or stops time. I think it's very rude not to share your time
warping technology with your fellow Mozilla brothers and sisters :-) .

BTW speaking of old postings - Brian I just got (today) an Inland
ergonomic keyboard (from newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16823205007 ). It's
not exactly what I wanted but it was as close as I could find and for
the price I thinking of getting a 2nd one as a backup.

Didn't you just mentioned Georgia Straits in your previous posting? I
looked that up and its around Vancouver

furthermore, as I was reading the mozilla.general newsgroups, I came
across the posting in question:
http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.general/browse_frm/thread/fa17f4fefc79b1a8/0db9b73c241a611b?tvc=1#0db9b73c241a611b
which mentioned Georgia Straits, plus it provided another link which
mentioned Vancouver. Now, I know who Andreas and gwtc are, and I can
assure you I am not those people.

Plus, another Brian mentioned it:
http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.support.thunderbird/browse_thread/thread/91a4e5024b96fd1/7e06deed75033a15?lnk=st&q=&rnum=4#7e06deed75033a15

> How, even as a putative retiree, do you find the time to read back

I started to read them this month. It took a while. Unlike the Firefox
or Thunderbird newsgroups, where they have over Fourty Thousand
messages, the mozilla.general has a little less than one thousand six
hundred. Or as google puts it, a little more than 260 topics. Thats
not many messages. I found some of them to be very humorous and silly.
Now I know why reg talks about the Sheriff and Police of the newsgroups.

yes, priory history. Just his veminous abuse between myself [since
November 2006], garth and a couple of other posters. Plus after reading
the mozilla.general newsgroup, I see that its a common trait he exhibits
towards other posters. I think he has a screw loose, as he's done it to
many others.

Hah! :-)

I once came up with a theory that it should be possible to take time away
from those who have no use for it (/e.g./, those who whinge about being
bored) and give it to those who just don't have enough of it. The problem,
of course, came about because time seems by nature inexorably to move
forward, and there seemed to be no way to accomplish it without either
completely changing the laws of the universe or hopelessly disrupting the
time-space continuum.

(A correlate of this was the idea that, if you're a student, it's not just
that the amount of work you need to do that increases at certain times of
year, but the actual amount of time available in which to accomplish it
decreases as well; however, this, too, seems to have fallen prey to the
nature of time.)

Had a quick boo at it; doesn't look all too bad.

I've actually largely been happy with the M$ keyboard I bought -- it's
already helped reduce the strain/tendonitis in my left arm, tho' the right
arm is another matter, but I recently changed how I mouse, so we'll see in a
couple weeks if that helps -- ; the only issue I've so far encountered is
that drivers for it seem to be difficult to find for Linux, and, although
there's apparently a patch available, I'm a bit leery of recompiling the
kernel just to get support for the sundry additional keys and functions.

Still, I do miss my old LiteOn keyboard with Synaptics touchpad (tho' I
suspect more recent touchpads and drivers are more advanced then this one --
the keyboard's nearly 10 years old!); one of these days, I'll buy a PS/2
converter for the keyboard and see if I can't use one of the additional
ports on the mo/bo to drive the touchpad.

I have to admit that, as a touch typist, I find it somewhat distressing that
ergo keyboards seem to have dropped off the consumer map; it seems that,
unless you're willing to spend a small frigging fortune, good ergo keyboards
are hard to find.

When a LiteOn keyboard identical to the one I had started to die at the
church -- Mom was never able to adjust her hard touch from the manual
typewriter days, and the contact on the right side of the space bar (which,
if I slow down my typing, I realise is by far the more used side; in fact,
I've gotten in the bad habit of using my right thumb even when the left
thumb would normally be called for) started to go, we bought an Adesso
keyboard very much like
<http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?Image=23%2D166%2D028%2D02%2Ejpg%2C23%2D166%2D028%2D03%2Ejpg%2C23%2D166%2D028%2D04%2Ejpg&CurImage=23%2D166%2D028%2D02%2Ejpg&Description=ADESSO+PCK%2D308B+Black+PS%2F2+Ergonomics+Keyboard+Built%2DIt+Touchpad+Mouse+Included+%2D+Retail>;
'cos it was the best value for money I could find.

Unfortunately, it has a Cirque touchpad, which sucks most heinously in
comparison to the Synaptics ones, and I found the split space bar irritating
and potentially problematic. . . .

But, for the price, the one you bought seems like a good buy.

If I had the money (which, of course, I don't), I'd definitely be tempted to
consider the products at <http://www.safetype.com/>,
<http://www.datahand.com/>, and the contoured ones at
<http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/>.

<http://www.ergo-items.com/> and <http://www.comfortkeyboard.com/> might be
other sites worth looking at. Since it seems that a Synaptics touchpad
integrated it an ergo keyboard is a thing of the past, I'm still looking for
an ideal pointing device; at first blush,
<http://comfortkeyboard.com/Wheel_Mouse.html> would look more promising were
it not that I use a reverse grade on my keyboard, but
<http://comfortkeyboard.com/ergo_trackball.html> definitely looks promising.

That one looks a lot like this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826125017

Some of the keyboards and stuff you pointed out look very cool, some
(like the Comfort Keyboard) are going on my wish list.

So you must have seen the other trackballs at newegg? The one I have is
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826104125 (....and
no I don't work at newegg :-D , I just shop there a lot)
I wrote a review for it when I was shopping for my keyboard. I'm
"PoisonFor3"; that's where the "PF3" in my "PF3_Newsgroups" (the name I
use for news groups) comes from. One thing I did not put in the review
is that your hand sits a little sideways and it seems to help the
ergonomics of it, what SafeType calls Pronation.

I have put a folded towel down in fount of my keyboard and mouse to help
with making my hand angle is better, what SafeType calls Deviation. It
helped with the deviation but I can never get my chair up high enough to
have good extension (another term I got from SafeType); plus it looks
dumb. I don't like the under the table or end of table extensions
because I like the armrests on my new chair and my arms and elbows on
the table. One thing I have given thought to is cutting a hole in my
desktop and sinking the keyboard about 3 to 4 cm. It seems to me I have
seen something like that years ago. I think it was one of them things
that was a good idea that just never took off ..... or maybe not.

I was absolutely stunned to discover the difference between the Synaptics
touchpads and the Cirque ones. If my first experience with a touchpad has
been with a Cirque, I'd hate 'em . . . rather than lamenting the fact that I
can't find an ergo keyboard with a Synaptics touchpad.

They don't look too dissimilar, tho' the one to which I pointed seems more
rugged. . . .

If memory serves, it was one of the Logitech ones designed for right-handed
people. Problem is, I'm neither strictly right-handed nor strictly
right-handed, so while I tend to use a mouse primarily with my right hand,
there are times when I don't.

For instance, my right elbow's been giving me enough problems in the past
little while (I suspect because of the position of the mouse) that I
switched my mouse so that I could use it with my left hand. Hopefully that
helps remove some of the strain. (I'm guessing it's a good thing that
no-one else really uses this computer. :-P)

Very much like the M$ keyboard I bought. In fact, I suspect that's been
causing my elbow to twist when I reach for the mouse, and that's what's
causing the problems. . . .

One thing that I've tended to do is set my keyboard so that my forearms are
actually touching the edge of the table; it just seems to help keep my
wrists at a better angle.

The real issue, I find, is that most people don't sit high enough -- or sit
too high -- in relation to the surface on which their keyboard rests. You
can use extension as a way of partly adjusting for that.

Then again, given how I've seen some people (younger women in particular)
sit when they type, I wonder how they manage to type at all -- let alone
type at something over 60 words a minute!
