Only someone with a morbid mentality would think such a thing.
Regardless of his posting acumen, etc. it's always sad to hear of a
tragedy that has befallen an acquaintance regardless of the venue.

If you don't mind, how about posting a bit more bio on GWTC or point us
to a site where we can get a bit more info on him. Thanks. Pass along
the condolences from all of us at Netscape, this group and those
associated with anything to do with Mozilla, etc.

That's terrible. I hope somebody finds comfort in tears shed by a

Godspeed.

Although GWTC was not one of my favorite people, I am certainly not
"dancing in the streets". I am appalled at the accident that took him
and more so at your having to witness it. As others have said, my
condolences to you for the loss of a friend and - of course - to his
family. Like Jay, I would like to learn more about the man.

I am very, very sorry to hear this. He was a great guy and so helpful
with a lovely sense of humour.

He'll be sorely missed.

My condolences and prayers to you and to gwtc's family and other

How very tragic. My sincere condolences to you, his family, & friends.

Please don't take the following the wrong way, it is not meant as a
scolding or rebuke, just a statement of my thoughts on the subject.

Although he occasionally rubbed me the wrong way, I certainly won't be
dancing in the streets, and I really don't believe that any of the
regulars here would be either.

We may have our disagreements here, from time to time, but then, that is
the nature of newsgroups, forums, etc., anywhere opinions are expressed.
But I don't believe that disagreement translates into wishing someone
dead, for most reasonable people, anyway. We may wish they would go
away sometimes, but not in this permanent sense.

Although I can only really speak for myself, I would like to think that
the other regulars here think/feel the same way. Optimistic? Maybe,
but that's what I would like to believe.

Again, my sincere condolences.

I wish to offer my condolences.

I've only been on this group a little while, but I always looked forward
to GWTC's "to be continued" sigs.

I also found his help straight forward and sincere.

Again, we've all lost someone who cared enough about others to offer his
help and with in this forum.

My best wishes to his friends and family

I must admit the story sounds a bit strange and I also haven't found
anything on the internet about such an accident recently...maybe I'm a
bit too wary, but there has been abuse with such things in the past on
the Usenet and on the internet in general.

Andreas,

Can you provide any links to press coverage of this tragedy? I've tried
searching extensively online since you posted to no avail. It would
seem that such an event would have caught the attention of local (if not
national) press.

Pardon me !!! You supplied the email address to the Coast Guard. If you
didn't want anyone to send a mail then why did you post it? All I wanted
was to ask for a link to a news article or a detailed report. I did not
send the email to challenge the authenticity of your story about GTWC. I
believe your report, I just wanted more info on our friend GWTC, that's
it nothing more.

Why no reply to my (polite) query upthread? Nor to Jay's query of 11/3?
And now to all of a sudden jump in here with this?

Every comment made in reply to your OP has been supportive and humane.
No one intimated that it didn't happen, we were just honestly curious
for more details on the incident and the man.

They show you how detergents take out bloodstains. I think if you've got
a T-shirt with bloodstains all over it, maybe your laundry isn't your

The "silence" is deafining isn't it.

That's all I wanted was more information to better get a handle on "G".

I have an acquaintance that is a member of GSA (Georgia Straits
Administration). I emailed him with the inquiry, surely they should know
something or a link to a news account. Could be that it's being witheld
for family reasons at the moment, who knows.

True but after we explained our intentions he should reply in kind IMHO
of course.

I emailed him saying roughly the same thing this morning. No response yet.

I find it truly amazing that the death of people we know only by
posts/email can affect us so strongly. I've "known" perhaps half a
dozen people who died, some by accident, some by disease and some by
suicide, and all affected me more than the deaths of certain real people
I've known.

Perhaps that makes us better people than we thought we were, or at least
less cynical. Or something.
