Hi, all.

As you know, we've been having issues with spam on the Drumbeat community mailing list.
There's been quite a bit of discussion around it in this thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.community.drumbeat/browse_thread/thread/a2461986d67078b6#

We discussed the issue in Monday's Drumbeat call (notes here:)
https://etherpad.mozilla.org/Drumbeat-Monday-community-call-October

And we reviewed Gerv's analysis of what's causing the spam, and what Mozilla IT can do to block it:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Discussion_Forums/Proposal

The issue in a nutshell: the spam originates on the Google Groups side. Ordinarily we'd be able to use Google Groups moderation to block it.
But because Mozilla mailing lists are set up as "triples" (with support for multiple protocols), these moderation features are unavailable.
(Please see Gerv's analysis and the bug filed with Mozilla IT for more:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Discussion_Forums/Proposal )

Given this fact -- and given the low amount of activity on this mailing list recently --
we decided in Monday's call to temporarily suspend this list. To protect people's inboxes from spam,
until such time as the underlying issue can be resolved.

This will also give us a chance to re-examine the best way for us to host broader community discussion, as our work evolves beyond Drumbeat and becomes a greater part of Mozilla's general learning and innovation work.

In the mean time, there are many other ways for us to stay in touch and up to date -- primarily through individual project mailing lists.
This is now where most of the conversation is happening anyway (which is a large part of why the activity on this general list has diminished).

You'll find links to some of those channels below.
Please list any additional lists or channels I may have missed here:
https://etherpad.mozilla.org/Drumbeat-Monday-community-call-October

Thanks for your patience, apologies for the spam, and will be back in touch with more soon!

Best,

--Matt
