The drumbeat mailing-list is mostly dead.
The signal/noise ratio very low.
and the list seems to not be moderated at all.

Would it be time

1. to close it
2. to moderate it

Opinions?

I would suggest closure, but maybe make it more engaging. Closure would
simply mean
loosing all members subscribed! Maybe moderation could work the magic, but I
have
it mind that we make it more engaging!

Cheers!

I, too, realized today that this list has become too spammy and under-used.

Where are people having conversations instead?

I find most Mozilla Foundation info and discussions I have are via Twitter
and blogs. So, following project hashtags and accounts such as #mozfest and
#MozNewsLab and now @Mozilla. And then using blog posts and commenting for
longer discussions.

How are other folks getting news and talking about open web ideas?

Hi all,

I agree w/ Michelle on this. Lately, I also get updates from @Mozilla
and other project's twitter account, hashtags, Mozilla Community Monday
calls, updates from the Join letter etc. (and sometimes I find info on
blogposts / comments).

My idea would be to let the specific projects lists and maybe close
this one?

I suggest moderating the list and still having it available for
announcements.

All the spam lately seems to be coming from one email address, if we
could just get that one taken care of... but I really think these
lists are important. Someone who wants to keep up with drumbeat and
drumbeat style projects doesn't necessarily have the time to watch
several twitter accounts, and even so that doesn't allow discussion.
There needs to be a central place, like this or a blog, to make it
easier for people to stay informed. Though maybe drumbeat isn't a
thing anymore? in that case closing the list makes sense, but there
should still be something central to take over.

Hi, all. Sorry for coming late to this thread.

We're going to discuss these issues around the Drumbeat mailing list in today's Drumbeat call (11am ET):
https://etherpad.mozilla.org/Drumbeat-Monday-community-call-October

As many have pointed out, much has changed since we first started this list, and most of the projects now have their own individual lists, where most of the real discussion is now happening.

As for the spam issue specifically, Gerv has written thoughtfully about the underlying problem (and filed a bug against it) here:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Discussion_Forums/Proposal
