The SpotOn GPS fence is designed to train your dog to remain within your property boundaries while simultaneously tracking their location. It proves highly effective for properties larger than half an acre, provided you are committed to training your dog. If these criteria don't align with your situation, exploring alternative options may be more suitable.
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE USING SPOTON GPS FENCE
Subscription: SpotOn does not mandate a subscription, setting it apart from most other GPS fences. However, opting for a subscription is advisable, offering benefits such as escape and low battery notifications on your phone and real-time tracking of your dog's location. The subscription, reasonably priced at around $10/month billed monthly or $6/month billed biennially, includes a 90-day free trial.
Boundary Training: Like any invisible fence, boundary training is imperative before allowing your dog to roam freely. While the collar permits static correction levels up to 30, a setting of 10 proved sufficient for my trial. It's advisable to focus on training your dog to understand the fence boundaries, preferably using the vibration setting without static correction.
Battery Life: SpotOn claims approximately 22 hours of containment mode battery life, reducing to about 14 hours in tracking mode. A full charge from a dead battery takes roughly an hour.

SETTING UP THE SPOTON GPS FENCE
Upon receiving the SpotOn collar, I commenced by charging it. If using the optional contact points for static correction, I installed the shorter points suitable for short-haired dogs. The static correction is inactive by default.
Next, I downloaded the app using the QR code in the instruction manual, which directed me to the App Store or Google Play. The app guided me through setting up my dog's profile, requiring a photo, color selection for the GPS map tracking icon, and the dog's name. Manually entering the collar's serial number or scanning the QR code on the back was necessary.
Subsequently, I provided details about my dog's breed, gender, and birthdate. Activating the cellular subscription plan within the app was essential for tracking the dog's location and receiving notifications on the phone. Once activated, the app swiftly connected to the dog's collar via Bluetooth, completing the setup in a mere three minutes.
