Hello.

I can't seem to screen capture and record from some video streaming apps
(e.g., HBO Max and Apple TV+) in my old iPhone 6+'s iOS v12.4.7. Its
screen captures are mostly black even though I can see app's control
overlays and subtitles/closed captions. Just no video. Screen recorder
says "Screen Recording failed to save due to:Failed to save recording
[OK]".

Is anyone else having this problem too? Is this a copy protection? :(
YouTube app had no issues.

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering. :)

Note: A fixed width font (Courier, Monospace, etc.) is required to see this signature correctly.

Yep, it's to stop you copying anything.

What are you playing the video in??

I know when using Safari in MacOS, screengrabs don't show the still
image from protected videos, just a black rectangle. Switching to
Firefox instead usually used to work (I haven't need to try it in a
while).

The same might be true on iOS's Safari and some video playing apps.
Maybe playing the videos in iOS Firefox, if possible, will mean
screengrabs work.

I thought so. Just wanted to check.

iOS apps that I mentioned in my original post.

Wow, even macOS' Safari web browser? I don't have this problem in my
Windows and Linux PCs' web browsers. It must be a mac OS thing. I did
have this issue with iTunes' purchased free videos though in my decade
old, updated 64-bit W7 HPE SP1 PC. :( I didn't have this issue in its
Windows XP Pro. SP3 OS with its older iTunes version a few years ago.

Hi Ant,

I only skimmed this thread as I don't try what you are trying but I will
simply state that, given you have Windows, you can run any Android app
easily on Windows (often it runs even faster than on Android).

One of those apps is the _best_ on the planet, IMHO (and I've tested a
lot!) for viewing, searching, stripping out the audio, & downloading
movies, which is New Pipe.

I wrote a tutorial here if you want to get it running on Windows:
o *Android F-Droid New Pipe YouTube replacement on Windows*
<https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.mobile.android/rfyVKidB8X8/slOeDAEQAQAJ>

Another option, on Windows, is "youtube-dl.exe", which downloads lots more
than just Youtube (and which is what most Windows users seem to recommend):
o *The fantastically brilliant YouYube privacy clones*
(youtube-dl & New Pipe) have been updated to 0.14.1

Basically anything that you can see, you _already_ have.

Um, no. I want to stream to watch, screen capture, and record it in my
iPhone when not using my over decade old desktop PCs.
