Updated Covid-19 booster shots could
be available in September

Moderna & Pfizer booster shots updated
to target Omicron coronavirus subvariants
could be available in early fall, pending sign-
off by federal health agencies, the US De-
partment of Health & Human Services said
Friday.

The US Food & Drug Administration advised
vaccine makers in June to update the boos-
ters to add an Omicron BA.4/5 component &
create a bivalent booster.

Why the Omicron offshoot BA.5 is a big deal
https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/14/health/omicron-ba-5-variant-immunity-severity/index.html

The culprit this time is yet another Omicron off-
shoot, BA.5. It has 3 key mutations in its spike
protein that make it both better at infecting our
cells & more adept at slipping past our immune
defenses.

In just over two months, BA.5 outcompeted its
predecessors to become the dominant cause
of Covid-19 in the United States. Last week, this
subvariant caused almost 2 out of every 3 new
Covid-19 infections in this country, according to
the latest data from the CDC.

"We do not know about the clinical severity of
BA.4 and BA.5 in comparison to our other Omi-
cron subvariants, but we do know it to be more
transmissible & more immune-evading. People
with prior infection, even with BA.1 and BA.2,
are likely still at risk for BA.4 or BA.5."

[see article for assertion that 7 times more
people are being infected than are being re-
ported, one individual asserting that up to a
million cases per day are occurring but only

"Pfizer and Moderna have indicated that they
anticipate the modified vaccines being availa-
ble as early as September," an FDA spokesper-
son said.

The US Department of Health & Human Ser-
vices announced Friday an agreement to pur-
chase 66 million doses of Moderna's bivalent
booster shot for potential use in fall and winter.
That's in addition to 105 million bivalent boos-
ters the US government has purchased from
Pfizer.

Updated shots would need to be authorized by
the FDA & recommended by the US Centers for
Disease Control & Prevention.

Currently, people 5 and older are eligible for a
first booster shot, but only those 50 & older &
some immunocompromised people are eligible
for second boosters.

Adults 50 and older who have not received a
second booster dose with current Covid-19
vaccines "should consider doing so now," the
FDA spokesperson said. "You can still benefit
from existing booster options & leave time to
receive an updated booster in the fall."

At this time, the FDA is not considering author-
izing a second booster for otherwise healthy
adults under 50 with the original formulation
of the Covid-19 vaccines.

"Once boosters containing a BA.4/5 compon-
ent become available, individuals may consider
getting one following an appropriate interval
following their prior dose," the spokesperson
said. [Appropriate interval? I wonder what is
considered an appropriate interval.]

In late June, vaccine makers said boosters
updated to target Omicron showed a stronger
immune response than the current vaccines.

Combined, the US government's agreements
with Moderna & Pfizer would make about 171
million bivalent vaccine booster doses availa-
ble for the fall and winter, should they be auth-
orized and recommended. ...

Sidenote

My Covid-19 vaccinations record is as follows:

1st Dose Covid-19 Moderna initial vaccination
February 26 2021

2nd Dose Covid-19 Moderna initial vaccination
March 26 2021

1st Booster Shot (from Pfizer)
October 25 2021

2nd Booster Shot (from Pfizer)
March 30 2022

I presume I would be able to get a 3rd Booster
Shot specified above whenever it is available,
as I'm 66 years young but I await word on what
the "appropriate interval" referred to above is.

I was diagnosed with Islit (Insulinitis)
caused by Insulitis (autoimmune attack
on pancreatic beta cells) at age 5, in
March 1961, Insulitis Islit just 1 of
the 15 specific types of Islit.

INSULINITIS (ISLIT)

New SUPERIOR clarifying name for near-
total to total loss of endogenous insulin
https://prohuman.net/pix2/new_superior_clarifying_name_is_INSULINITIS.jpg

The overwhelming majority of Islit caused by
autoimmune attacks on pancreatic beta cells
(Insulitis Islit) but there are

o 15 specific types of rapid onset Islit, a
rare condition (only present in < one-half
of 1% of Americans & in a much lower rate
in most of the world), when present is typ-
ically diagnosed at age under 30
(50% at age < 18, 20% at age 19 to 29)

o 1 slow onset specific type, Latent Autoim-
mune Islit, frequency unknown but per a
recent report, misdiagnosed as Cellosis
(new clarifying name for type 2 diabetes)
almost 40% of the time due to its slow
onset and its occurrence typically at age
over 30

Old outdated anachronistic name for Islit is
type 1 diabetes, confusing in that diabetes
without clarifier is often used to describe
this condition which is 1 of the 7 Disparate
High Glucose Conditions (DHGCs).

That makes figuring out which DHGC is actu-
ally being referred to (and it can be any one,
or some, or all of them when the diabetes
or diabetic word is used without clarifier)
confusing / difficult:
