Hello all
I solved my previous post's problem by reinstalling minix3 in VBox with Ubuntu 20.04 host. However I can't install anything without this sort of error:

#minix  install error pkg_install warnings: 2, errors: 2
#pkg_install error log can be found in /usr/pkg/var/db/pkgin/pkg_install-err.log

the number of warnings and errors are the number of packages and dependencies to be installed. The packages are retrieved and  the install begins. Then the errors. I can't install even the smallest of packages like vim. Please help.
Thanks again and sorry for double posting.
Cheers

Hello,

What are the errors?

Best regards,
Peter

Hi,

As Peter said, we need a quick summary of the errors or perhaps a pastebin copy.  Also check out my post on the previous email chain.  Perhaps the URL is still wrong?  Also since these two topics were related.  It would've been easier to follow if the discussion was kept in a single thread.

Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for the help. I really apologize about the dual thread.
I did reinstall and the issue went away but then I got the errors that I sent in the screenshot. They are the content of the err.log, nothing more. the "1" vs. "i" was my typo but it isn't relevant anymore as I reinstalled. I will run the command with the proper syntax and see where that gets me. It doesn't explain the minix3 vs. the NetBSD sources though, To me at least.
I corrected the path though it is from the old install and tried installing xdm. Here's the result. I updated pkgin and every thing points to Minix so I have no idea how NetBSD ever even entered the system:

From the error log:

So no difference. I've reinstalled perhaps 20 times and the issue remains each time. In the install there is no choice for repositiories, Minix3 or BSD.

This is a learning effort and not mission critical.

Thanks everyone!

Brian

I think that version of Minix doesn't work well with vb iirc, you have to use the 3.3 iso

Hi and sorry for the late reply,

So looking at your screenshots this seems to vaguely remind me of something about how the latest pkgsrc packages were built.  Or maybe it was something in minix. I'll need a little bit of time to check my notes but I vaguely remember that this was an issue that was 'fixed' but perhaps not fully?  I'll see what i can dig up in my notes and/or the code...

Okay, so here's what I've found so far:

I apologize for not being able to provide a deeper analysis.  I *still* don't have my test environment set up due to RL time limitations and whatnot.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for that Doigt. I'll give that a shot the next time I have space
to work with it.

Much appreciated and it explains the problem.
