an interesting time to read about what people think about a
masterpiece in progress...

is right before the masterpiece is finished:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.sopranos/topics
(there's several weeks of discussion there)

...unless it turns out that it wasn't really a masterpiece in progress
after all.

still, either way, it *is* an interesting time to read what people
think.

because the series itself definitely had its numerous moments of high
art.

so the zillions of fans of the show wonder...

will there be a movie?

will it have to be a prequel?

will the actors be typecast for the rest of their careers?

...

meanwhile, as far as the story goes, the audience is at the mercy of
the writers.

and for the next three weeks, theories will abound.

everyone has a different opinion.

a different expectation.

millions of viewers awaiting the writers' choices.

it's the kind of thing that can only happen in modern times.

this is the television generation.

who killed Laura Palmer?

who shot JR?

who is the newest American Idol?

but this time, we find out without obvious commercial interruptions.

it's not TV... it's HBO.

and then we have a whole new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm to look
forward to.

oh well, two shows out of hundreds is a pretty good start.

and let's not forget The Daily Show and a few others.

perhaps the idiot box isn't a complete waste of time, but it's pretty
close.

so much potential.

and yet, so much crap.

i mean, just the possible documentaries alone.

how can the standards be so low?

500 channels and 99% of them are nothing but 24 hours a day's worth of
virtual uselessness.

and then there's the internet.

whoa.

worse percentages than the idiot box.

how can this be?

...

well, here's hoping for better.

gabagool -- The Soprano's Finale -- 25+ versions

(was: Re: an interesting time to read about what
people think about a masterpiece in progress...)

after tonight's much anticipated Soprano's finale, which i'm sure will
be masterpiece material, it would be interesting to create a whole
other season which consisted of nothing other than alternate versions
of the series finale.

kinda like exploring multiple parallel universes.

that would be way more true to life than anything else that they could
possibly come up with tonight.

free will -- and being at the mercy of various random circumstances.

it would be a truly fascinating way to end such a great series.

likewise, it would be majorly disappointing.

and annoying.

isn't that strange?

the way that we'd rather have something we may dislike rather than
view the world as it truly is.

anyway, remember that one Wayne's World movie with the multiple
endings?

now THAT was funny.

near the end of the flick, Wayne looks into the camera and asks Garth
aloud which kind of ending they should do -- and they proceed to
cinematically show each suggestion respectively.

the sad ending.

the happy ending.

etc.

they totally tear down the obligatory suspension of disbelief with
amusing results.

there was a brilliant Monty Python's Flying Circus offering that did
the same thing.

throughout the episode, Eric Idle, buying an ant for a pet, had been
thru consumer hell in some department store (as well as at home during
a buyer's remorse segment) and near the end of the show the general
manager of one of the stores (Terry Jones, i think) -- who Eric was
finally able to get to complain to -- offered him various options for
different endings.

as Terry (the manager) mentioned each possibility, it instantly began
to play out.

"fade to black?"

[scene begins to quickly dim]

then, it instantly reverted back to the brightly lit customer (Eric)
declining that particular option.

"chase scene?"

[a mob of department store employees burst out from a back room and
chase a now frantic Eric Idle from one chaotic floor to another]

swap right back to Eric at the counter calmly nodding no, yet again.

so the manager mentions yet another cliche ending.

and on and on and on.

hilariously done.

Tony Soprano is dead. Everybody has figured that out except you.

Maybe if you would get a job instead of posting megablogs every day,
your reasoning skills would vastly improve from dealing with reality
instead of thinking you're special and somehow exempt.

um... Tony Soprano is a fictional character.

duh.

FOITN

BTW: that means Fans of Irony Take Note.

you do know what irony is, don't you?

you act like making megablogs is easy.

and just to clue you in a bit, nobody is exempt from the realities of
life.

see how that works?

and my resoning abilities are exceptional.

for instance:

IF three plus three equals five

AND two plus two equals three plus three

AND three is greater than two (by one)

THEN the statement:

two plus two equals five

is:

a] True
b] False
c] Unable to Determine
d] Logical Cognitive Dissonance/y?

and you must show your work.

i'll bet you get the answer wrong.

$10,000 too rich for you?
