To
Apply:
Completing an online survey is the first step of the
application to work as a Crew Member for the 2014 Detroit Conservation
Leadership Corps (DCLC). Take time to prepare your answers to the four short
answer questions in a word document before you begin the online application and
then copy and paste them into the online application. The Short Essay Questions
are listed on page two. Most word processors have a “Word Count” function you
can use to check the number of words of your essays.
Important: When answering the Short Essay Questions, be
descriptive and tell a story. The Crew Member positions are limited and the reviewing
committee wants to get to know you and your ideas and experiences through these
essays. Think: "How can I make my essay stand out from all of the other
essays?" Remember to meet the minimum word requirement indicated by each
essay question.
Please be patient as we review applications. We will inform
all applicants about whether or not they are moving on to Step 2 of the application process by Friday, March 14th.

The Detroit Conservation Leadership Corps is a leadership development program. What leadership skills do
you currently have and what experiences helped to build them? (Essay

Short Essay 2: What
new leadership skills do you want to develop in the program? Why are you
interested in building those specific skills? (Essay should be at least 150

in their work (hot weather, difficult conservation work, new experiences).

family, friends) and describe how you overcame that challenge. (Essay should be
at least 200 words)
Short Essay 4: The

Step 2 – Day in the
Life
Applicants who have been selected for Step 2 will be
notified by email by Friday, March 14th
and asked to attend a half-day try-out in early April. The "Day in the
Life" event will include hands-on environmental conservation projects and
participating in leadership and team building activities. It will be an
opportunity for the SCA to evaluate applicants and also a time for applicants
to get a feel for the SCA program and decide if it will be the right fit.
Step 3 – Completing
Paperwork and Orientation
Following the "Day in the Life" event, all youth
applicants who attended the event will receive notification about their
application status by April 25th.
Crew Members whom are offered a position with the Detroit CLC will receive
