Please check for your project Piping/Welding Specification/standards/fabrication procedure of inconel Piping.
If not found, check with manufacturer recommendation and get it approved by client.

Dear Harenath,

Due to improper storage, the thermowell of Inconel 601 got corroded. For these items can we do pickling and passivation?

ASTM A380 is a good ref.  It give a list of possible solutions to use and some basic guides.

Again... Please what is the as shipped condition... If it is not heat treated then u can not do passivation. If it is heat treated then passivation can be done Please refer astm a 380 for more details...  Still you are in doubt please let me know..

I suppose there are 2 types of Nickel Alloys, Solid solution strengthened and Precipitation Hardened alloys.

Inconel 601 falls under Solid solution strengthened and supplied in  Solution Annealed Heat Treated condition.

ASTM A 380 is pickling and passivation standard for stainless steel.

it is better to contact the Manufacturer regarding Pickling and passivation to remove corrosion deposits.

Thanks & Regards

Please refer packing, transportation and preservation procedure of the manufacturer.

That might contains the preservation details otherwise better to get advice from the manufacturer.
