Has anyone here had success running Pronterface with Makerbot
hardware? For kicks and giggles I tried it today but cannot get it to
connect to my machine. I've used the same port and baud rate set up
in my RepG xml file but with no luck.

Any thoughts/info is appreciated.

I think the makerbot firmware uses a different communication protocol,
but I'm not sure. I run sprinter on my cupcake electronics, and drive
it using pronterface. It's a conversion well worth doing, if you're
interested.

I use pronterface with a Cupcake and RAMPS 1.2 board, so making the switch from Replicator to Pronterface was easy.

I have thing-o-matic extruder boards and can't get it to connect. Can
anyone confirm that it will/not work?

I believe a fellow Hackerspace member used firmware from ScribbleJ
with Pronterface but that is all a guess.

You will need to load different firmware onto the MakerBot Gen4 electronics before it will work. The MakerBot firmware talks using a protocol called S3G where as others use raw G-Code.

AFAIK ScribbleJ's firmware is the only one that will work on Gen4 with the extruder controller.
