I have thing-o-matic extruder boards and can't get it to connect. Can
anyone confirm that it will/not work?

You will need to load different firmware onto the MakerBot Gen4 electronics before it will work. The MakerBot firmware talks using a protocol called S3G where as others use raw G-Code.
