Here's a Friday evening question: There seems to be some good work
done by the various ArduPilot projects in both hardware & coding.
Could we not benefit from their work a little, even if as reference
points? Could some of the code be used for A2.5 throttle control?

The latest version of their hardware/software seems to be the
ArduPilotMega v2.0 (the purple one) which is very compact and very
slick.

It basically just consists of a microcontroller, some storage on the
DataFlash card, a GPS, and 9-degrees-of-freedom worth of IMU sensors -
a 3-axis accelerometer, a 3-axis magnetometer (compass) and a 3-axis
gyro.
It might be of interest to ASRI for Zuni instrumentation, but I'm not
sure how well it ticks all the boxes on all of their requirements.
Maybe it would work. It's one more candidate option. It doesn't seem
to have any provision on board for an RF telemetry downlink, and it
would also need a high-range accelerometer somehow added it to it.

From conversations ASRI have had in the past, they certainly need a
payload bus, and while the ArduPilotMega v2.0 is excellent kit for
reference and learning from, or expanding, it's not really the spec
they had in mind for Zuni, as you intimate.
The MobSendDat v2 is likely what the Zuni's will need.
I was interested in diving into the ArduPilotMega code, and seeing
what gems of goodness they have already fashioned, that we might
re-purpose, including for the A2.5 motor control board.
Ultimately it would be good to get our hands on a ArduPilotMega and
have a play, along with a Rasberry Pi as a possible test-bed for the
Radar altimeter &/or the JPEG2000 work Lee was working on.

Your collaboration on the open work we're doing sounds great!
Have you also looked at the recent work Luke has done on the proposed
Zuni avionics package? Thoughts, comments?
