epub: images on smaller devices are cut off

Hi,

Images are cutoff horizontally when using an epub reader on a smaller mobile device using portrait mode and vertically if using landscape. If you turn the page in portrait, the rest of the image doesn't appear. In landscape when an image is cut off vertically, you will see the remainder of the image when you scroll.

These display correctly with mobi and pdf files.

We tested the EPUB for https://leanpub.com/mobileappdesign on an iPhone in Books, and iPad in Books, and on an Nexus phone (which is by now pretty old) in Google Play Books, and we were unable to reproduce this issue - here's an image from the iPhone test:

On all the devices, the images displayed correctly in both portrait and landscape mode.

Jonathan, I can see from your screenshot you there's a back-link to Dropbox. Can you tell me what app you were viewing the EPUB in when you took the screenshot? If there's any special trick to opening EPUBs from Dropbox I'd love to hear that too.

Thanks for the details Paolo. We still haven't been able to reproduce this, but that being said we don't have a Pixel 2 XL device to test on.

We've made a record of this and all the details you and Jonathan provided, so hopefully when we come across it next, we've got a head start in figuring out how to resolve the issue.

Hi Len,

there are a couple more options. The first is to change the font size in the Google Play Books app to see if this triggers the issue. The other is to use Android Studio's Android emulator to set up a virtual Pixel 2 XL.

Another data point. The issue occurs also in the Google Play Books Android app on Chrome OS, here's a screenshot of the same book I took with my ASUS Chromebox 3.

I was viewing the book in Apple Books. It also does this with the epub preview in Dropbox. My reviewers are also telling me that the images are all cut off in epub versions. There is a combination of iPhone SE, XR, iPad devices, and a couple of Android devices.
