Hi everyone,

I go by Clarisse Thorn, and I'm from Chicago.  I got in touch with Maymay about presenting a lecture I've been working on with CV, and she suggested that I come out in March!  I am only just getting into the SM activism thing, but I have been in the scene for a while and I am really excited to have the chance to do some good work for sex positivity / alt sexuality as a whole.

Here's a description of my presentation ....
"Imagery deriving from bondage, discipline and sadosmasochism (BDSM) is becoming commonplace -- and we all know (or think we know) what a dominatrix is -- but most people don't have much idea of what BDSM actually involves. Although it is increasingly accepted as an alternative sexual orientation like homosexuality, BDSM remains surrounded by stigma, scandal and occasional legal action. This lecture will describe the basics of BDSM (however, it's not a how-to lecture -- you aren't going to learn how to use a whip, though you'll learn where to go to find out!). It will also cover BDSM history, cultural landmarks, and current issues."

Nice to meet you all,
Clarisse

P.S. I tried to add myself to the wiki, but when I attempted to add another row to that table, the row number was grayed out and couldn't be edited ... help?

Hi Clarisse,

Thanks for taking the time to say hello on the list! As we discussed
privately, right now there is a question posed to the group regarding
what the best date to hold this event in March would be. No one's
answered yet, so if you have a preference please feel free to voice
your opinion by replying to that thread[0].

Also, just as an FYI, I use male pronouns despite the feminine name. ;)

Your presentation topic is fantastic and I do hope you have the
opportunity to be in NYC for the inaugural KinkForAll. Just in case
you're not already aware, however, bear in mind that presentation
slots during KinkForAlls are limited to 20 minutes[1], so if your
prepared lecture is longer than that, it's recommended that you try to
distill the main points out of it and present those first. You can
read more about the details of what to expect[2] at a KinkForAll on
the wiki site.

That's odd about the last line in the table. I've gone ahead and
simply added a new row for you, so you can just go to the
KinkForAllNewYorkCity page[3] and fill in the row yourself. If you
want to make it easier for the next person to add their name, just hit
the TAB key while your cursor is inside the right-most table cell. ;)

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
-maymay

hello group -

hi Clarisse, nice to meet you! LOVE the description you sent so far. so looking forward to this gathering!

maymay - in response to your March dates query - I don't really have things planned this far in advance, and I'm not in school, so spring break doesn't effect me. any of the weekends work fine.

As for the dates -- I had no preference right up until I realized, today, that CineKink [ http://www.cinekink.com/program/ ] is happening in late February.  So early March would be awesome -- we could synergize with them.

Okay, good. Hi, and nice to meet you, Clarisse!

I'm Maja, and I blog over at http://squealsofdelight.wordpress.com/
(which sorely needs some new content, so keep an eye out in the near
future). My Twitter is Majamajamaja, and you're welcome to drop me a
line there or at this email address.

I'm excited to get the word out about KinkForAll, and to present for
the first time after a handful of years listening to other folks tell
their stories. I'm going to talk about behavioral status and how an
understanding of that can be applied to a scene and/or relationship.
It's something I learned from my Improv days that's proved
unbelievably helpful to me, in widely varied contexts. I'm looking
forward to sharing it with you.

Cheers,
Maja

Hi Maja,

That sounds truly awesome. :) That's exactly the sort of thing you
could talk about with people to get them excited about coming to
KinkForAll in March and participating.

Do you have any input for potential dates in March to hold KinkForAll?
If you do, respond to the "Hello + Dates for a NYC Event?" thread[0]
(and not necessarily this one).

Hi folks! I just saw Eileen's blog post and decided it was about time
I joined this list. Cooperative education is one of my most favorite
things in the world and therefore I think this is a brilliant idea.

My name's Emily and I'm a college student currently living in New
Jersey--on the internet I'm known either as echomikeromeo or
alterisego, and blog (intermittently) at alterisego.wordpress.com. I'm
not sure I'm capable of presenting at KinkForAll--I'm definitely in
the learning stages of my life right now--but I'd like to help out in
some small way if I can. Anyway, I just wanted to say that this is
*brilliant*.

That's also for your support. One of the most valuable things you can
do right now is simply help spread the word. The more people who know
about this effort, the better. I noticed you already posted on your
blog about it, which is great! The next thing you can do is copy and
paste the email flyer text posted earlier[0] and if you belong to any
groups or have other outlets such as other blogs, a Twitter.com
stream, social networking profiles, and so on, copy it into any of
those places as appropriate.

Other things you can do is keep your ear to the ground with regard to
venue options, bake some food to bring with you and share the day of
the event, help with signage if it will be necessary, print a bunch of
flyers that has the aforementioned text on it and post them on your
college campus, and anything else that you can think of to help.

Again, thanks for being a part of this with us! I'm really looking
forward to meeting you in March. :)

Hi all,

Just thought I'd announce that I'm starting a new BDSM blog, mostly to promote my BDSM overview lecture and also my upcoming kink-friendly documentary series.  If any of you have any interest in either of these things, come on over ... right now my first post is asking for advice on how/where to present my lecture.  [ http://clarissethorn.wordpress.com/ ]  Also, I've got mountains of blogs to explore -- if you are very excited about being on my blogroll, you should comment so you go to the top of the stack ;).

I'm Chicago-based but in New York now, so if anyone wants to see or talk about my presentation, now is a good time.  I hope to attend various kink events on Saturday (Lesbian Sex Mafia, TES), so maybe I'll see some of you there!

Clarisse
