I'm Sara, also known online as "Sara Eileen" and just plain "Eileen."
I blog over at bloodylaughter.com, and to put it bluntly, I'm
*really* excited about unorganizing our unconference. To give a bit
of background (although I don't think this will be news to any of our
current mailing list subscribers) I'm an alum of CV, have taught in a
bunch of venues both in NYC and here in Sydney, and was the
educational programmer for year one of the Floating World. I am all
about the potential each of us has to share knowledge.
I think that Zed and Maymay have it spot on that our job at this
point is to spread the word, not just as a way to introduce the idea
but as a means to get people buying into it. The unconference is an
idea that a lot of people will immediately see the value of. In
essence, it is the simple proposition that everyone is an expert on
something, and that we want to hear from everyone. But because it's
very new, and somewhat unfamiliar as a concept in the kink/sex/queer/
related communities, there will be some uncertainty on how the thing
itself will play out. Hence, we need energy, enthusiasm, and people
who "get" the possibilities.
Ooookay. I will restrain my enthusiasm for the time being.
I have been thinking about possible dates for the NYC event. Maymay
and I will be returning to the States in a timeframe that makes March
logical. I think it should definitely be a weekend. I do have a
concern about spring break, however - especially if we approach CV to
sponsor this. How many people might we lose if we have the event
during Columbia's break period? Is that a concern worth scheduling
around? Please, let me know what you think.
Some possible dates:
March 7th or 8th - possible interference of exams from younger crowd.
But, earlier in the month, which might be good as it will really get
things rolling sooner.
March 14th - the first Saturday of spring break.
March 22nd - the last Sunday of spring break. - in both cases,
attendance concerns?
Marth 28th or 29th - after break, but very late in the the month. I
would lean toward an earlier time frame, personally.
Thoughts?
Cheers!

Yes indeed! Not only that, but the more we get the word out the less
"work" (in terms of time commitment and so forth) any one individual
will have to do to ensure things happen, and happen well. The best way
to get this to happen is enthusiasm, no doubt.

No need for restraining *enthusiasm.* ;)

Sinclair and Clarisse have responded to this in another thread[0], but
to avoid fragmentation I'm going to quote them here:

I wasn't aware that CineKink was happening in late February. I've
volunteered for that event some years ago and had a pretty good time.
From what I recall, it's not a large event, but it does get a decent
amount of press. I'd love the opportunity to synergize with it if at
all possible. At the same time, KinkForAll is planned to be a full-day
event (maybe from 10 AM through to 6 PM), which means planning it for
the *same* day(s) as CineKink is a mistake. We'd have to plan
KinkForAll on the following day or, more likely, the following weekend.
This means that perhaps early March, maybe the 7th or 8th as per
Sara's suggestions (quoted above) make the most sense.

Hi Viviane!
Thanks so much for joining up!
As for dates: new developments for Sara and I also make the 7th
difficult. Therefore, the 8th sounds like it will work much better.
It's a Sunday and still on the radar as a possibility for everyone, so
I think it's safe to say that the 8th of March is a far better option,
unless there is some enormous outcry of protest for some reason.
