Hello,
I am writing to inquire about the potential use of your SVG files within a proprietary software application that is not open-source and paid.

Our intention is to incorporate the SVGs and turn them into kanji animations within the software. However, we are uncertain whether this constitutes “building upon the work” as outlined in the license.

We are committed to providing appropriate credit for the use of your SVG files within the software.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I'm not the copyright owner or the license holder but there have been some discussions about this topic before:

I think a fair summary is that you should acknowledge the project and provide a link to the source of the KanjiVG information. But I'm not sure what the policy is about embedding the files into software and then distributing that software.

Hello,

In my research, I came across a previous discussion within the group (https://groups.google.com/g/kanjivg/c/U729dDy0_4E/m/EPVl17yJutMJ) that suggested utilizing KanjiVG's data for information is permissible as long as the SVG files themselves remain unmodified.

Before proceeding, I'd like to confirm this information. My intention is to leverage the data for animation without altering the original SVG files, as long as proper credit is given.

If the previous understanding is incorrect or outdated, I kindly request clarification to ensure I respect the valuable work of KanjiVG contributors.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Yes, you can distribute the files and read/process them within your software under the current license. You can also modify them.
