"Getting Ready for the 1950 Census" -- Steve Morse
Steve Morse will share tips on the 1950 census, searching with and without a name index. When the census is released in April 2022, it will not have a name index. So finding people will involve searching by location instead. Even when a name index becomes available, there will still be many reasons for doing locational searches.
The census is organized by Enumeration Districts, or EDs, thus the location needs to be converted to an ED before the census can be accessed. Morse's One-Step website (www.stevemorse.org) contains numerous tools for obtaining EDs. This talk will present the various tools and show circumstances in which each can be used.
Morse, considered the father of the Intel 8086 processor for the personal computer, went on to use his skills to create one-step tools for searching the Ellis Island passenger lists and more than 100 other portals to Internet sites. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies in 2006.
From 2005 through 2020, his website has been included in Family Tree Magazine's 101 best websites.
