Jim Baker, "Google, the Genealogist's Best Friend"

Sunday, June 13, 2021, 10 a.m. to noon, by Zoom

 

Jim Baker will demonstrate Google’s unique capability to find ancestral data lost to the more traditional genealogy sites. Several Google apps will be discussed, including  Google Images; Alerts; Books; Translate; You Tube; Maps; and Search, as well as Google’s connection to Wikipedia.

 

Jim is an active genealogist and German research expert and was an officer of the Sacramento German Genealogy Society, contributing numerous articles to its newsletter, Der Blumenbaum

 

He volunteered for more than 10 years at the Sacramento Regional Family History Library. and has given more than 500 presentations to more than 50 genealogy societies, including the JGSS.

 

Jim holds a PhD in sociology and is retired from an aerospace and business management career.  He says his most fun job was being the "piano-man" at Shakey's Pizza Parlor in Sacramento.

NYC Tenement Museum Plans Addition

For those who have visited, or plan to, the New York City Tenement Museum, the link above is from the New York Times about a planned addition.  (also attached)

The Museum, a five-story building on the Lower East Side, has recreated the apartments for tenants of various backgrounds from past decades. Now in the planning stages is an apartment dedicated to a Black family.
