Blessings,
Rabbi Me'irah

I will be attending the outstanding Hevra Kadisha conference in LA June 10-12. Join me there:

Shalom All,

As I write to you, I have on my desk the memorial book of a friend's father...bound, and lovely, and obviously not something every family could afford. Actually, this technique sounds like a very low cost option of making a memory. I wish I could look up my great grandparents on the web and see them and hear their stories. They are mysteries to me, with rumor in the family, but not so much fact as to simple things even, like where they were born. I think it's a great idea, and unobtrusive.

R Me'irah and All,

I, too, would love to have a summary of my ancestors lives, even
recent ones like grand parents. The problem is the speed of growth of
technology. I have a recording of my own Bar Mitzvah that was taken
on a 16mm tape recording machine. Today it is very hard to find a
machine that can read it, let alone transfer it onto a modern form of
storage. It won't be long before no one will have a reader that can
read a CD - a technology that was considered very advanced when it
came out. So let's say we implement this. Who's to say that 20 years
from now anyone will be able to read it? The latest/greatest
technology at any given time is obsolete in just a few years, let
alone decades, especially computer related items. So while I support
this idea, I'm skeptical about its practicality, durability, and long-
term value.

Maybe this would be a good dinner-time discussion item at the
conference.

See you then!

Many blessings,

Rick Light
