My personal experience of Oracle (Developer 6i) and Sun (java programmer, web component developer, enterprise architect) is that it makes almost no difference. In the UK at least.
As a recruiter I hardly ever came across certified individuals, and even when I did I only really used it to slim down the stack of CVs. Certification backs experience but doesn't replace it.
As an individual they helped me learn about the corners of the technologies I was studying but in 14 years of being certified in something I've only ever been asked about them once.
I wouldn't sit an Android certification exam but I'd certainly buy the study guide to sit alongside my other essential reference, Reto Meier's Pro Android 4 book. Besides, with the speed of evolution of the platform, how would we stay current? I could see me spending 3 months of every year re-certifying for the latest release!

- Android Certification [1 Update]
Carl Jokl <carl...@gmail.com> Jun 06 03:20AM -0700
Dear All
I wanted to ask if there are any official or recognised certifications for
developing Android applications. Sun and now Oracle have had a number of
certifications both covering core Java and also JavaME (as well as web and
EJB etc). I am not aware of any equivalent certification for Android
application development. Are there any courses or programs that anyone
would recommend as a means of certifying competence in Android development?
Carl
