Judge Alsup Rules: Oracle's Java APIs are Not Copyrightable
  But knowing them, they'll come back with a vengeance in appeal. Presumably it'll be the same story as SCO. On Fri, Jun 1, 2012 at 2:08 AM, Simon Ochsenreither < ...

API's can't be copyrighted
  Looks like Judge Alsup decided to rule<[link]>, after all, and his decision will most likely please everyone in the industry. API's are not copyrightable in the US. -- Cédric

Ep 385: don't forget groovy++
  Hi, During the brief discussion of groovy's upcoming static typing I feel groovy++ deserves to be mentioned as well. It is an extension/ companion for the current groovy release. It retains all of the groovy goodness and adds static typing with a simple annotation. The static typing is both at compile time (*) and at runtime. The lack of runtime... more »

Latest update on the Java on Mac situation?
  Hi All, as a developer of Java apps on Macs, I'm quite concerned about whats happening after Apple said they would not maintain the Mac version. 385 - Math or programming
  Hi, I am only half way on episode 385 but I did enjoy the discussion about "what should be taught in school" which was derived from the question if everyone should learn to program. To say that math is the base of everything so you'll better learn math so you can do everything has bad consequences, at least in Israel where I live.... more »

Why do HTML/CSS/JS coders use WYSIWYG document tools?
  Why do so many web programmers scoff at WYSIWYG HTML tools for their clumsiness and praise the precision and power of direct markup editing with their favorite editor or IDE, but then turn around and use the same type of clumsy WYSIWYG tools for creating documents and slide show presentations such as OpenOffice, Word, PowerPoint, or Apple Pages/Keynote rather than... more »

Anyone notice a lack of Java developers in the past few months?
  I have been getting tons of calls from recruiters, some from my resume being on file over 4 years ago. I live in the Cincinnati Ohio area and it seems that they are unable to find any Java developers. I have seen some recruiters starting to offer to pay overtime, signing bonuses, and bonus plans based on overtime hours and longevity with the company.... more »
