respond to what? It was Pratyatosa who brought up the subject of WW3 in the first place, and now he wants to belittle the idea by posting Pada's article from 2006.
The question is, "did Srila Prabhupada tell us that there would be nuclear war, or not?" Of course he did, and he was quite specific as well! Did he give an exact date? No! But he did tell us that it would take place during the life time of his disciples! Should we try to get 'out of the way' of it's effects? That is up to each individual. In the Krsna Book, however,SP states, "If there is imminent danger one must do everything to avoid it, but if in spite of trying one fails, then there is no loss".
What I do know is that when suffering from some kind of serious ailment [cancer,etc.] , practically every devotee I know of [including Sanyasis, GBCs ,gurus,etc.] has made every effort to prolong [save] his live.
I am certain that if, both, Pratyatosa and Puranjana , or any of their children or grand-chidren was facing some serious malady, they would seek out medical help, trying to save "their precious bags of bones", and not just chant Hare Krsna!

Kapindra Maharaja's "speculation" of the year 2006 [based on the BTG article in 1956] turned out to be wrong. And I am certain that he is most happy that he was mistaken. That , however, does not void Srila Prabhupada's ability to see the future, even as far back as in 1956. pg

Srila Prabhupada said that the Western scientists' predicting that their puny nuclear bombs will destroy everything is simply puffed-up. He said that WW3 won't be nearly as bad as they predict. Besides, nuclear bombs/ICBMs have to be maintained in order for them to work, which Russia, according to reports, has not done. Therefore, most of them will probably be duds.
Puranjana Prabhu expertly addressed this doomsday cult mentality back in April, 2005 as follows:

First, your prediction is total speculation and was massaged out of some article penned in 1956. This "2006 is the war" idea was not given to us at all after 1965 when it would have been actually more relevant for us. This idea was not repeated at all, what to speak of constantly, by Srila Prabhupada, which he would have done if he had wanted to warn us about some specific war date. There are also many other citations on the war, for example that it may not occur at all, and you failed to balance this out, as Sanat and Mukunda are so adept at doing. Even if it is true that the world will end in six months, as PADA's Christian friends at work also think like you (Armageddon is nigh), it is very foolish to madly run around to prepare for WW III -- only a few months before it is going to begin? Better to just sit down and chant Hare Krishna, if the end of the world is such a short distance away? If we actually thought WW III is only a few months away, that is what we'd do, just sit down and chant and be happy! Why start running around looking for shelter, if the bombs are dropping at any second? Rather, one should have been planning to make a self sufficient farm many years ago, if there was going to be a need for self-sufficient living. Then again, you avoid going to our friends in Mississipi or Oregon who have at least some foundation shape/ potential for a farm, you are not even trying to get a farm going along with the devotees!
And worse, Oregon might be the only place where all the bombs land, because the Russian missles are so out of date and in a state of ill repair, their guidance systems are not being maintained properly -- as is known everywhere publicly. Even a vastly better maintained American ICBM missle failed a "test launch" recently, because there was "water seepage into the fuel tank and electical systems." It is amazing that you have so much faith in the workability and accuracy of these machines, when in Russia there is barely any money to maintain these machines, and Russian machines are not the greatest quality even in tip-top condition. Who knows where their missles will go? And Russia lost Ukraine, Kryzykstan, and so many other places recently, they are fighting a bigger war at home.
Worse, you are agitating devotees to leave their houses and apartments, sometimes which they can barely maintain already due to tight money, and to fly off to some unkown place where getting a job is very hard. This may simply make some of our poor devotees go totally bankrupt, and end up destitute, and in some strange area where they know no one, as occured to many devotees when Harikesha, Hansadutta, Kirtananada and many of your predecessors previously predicted WW III. You "doomsday prediction" might be true in this sense, you may make a doomsday mess out of the lives of some of your readers by sending them on a wild golden goose egg hunt in the hills of Oregon, not what any of us needs right now! Let us know when you want to give up these war focused ideas and you want to re-join us in the preaching effort. Please! Do not have one more letter of distress coming from your followers to PADA, that they think they are going to burn to flinders if they are not in Oregon in a few months, this is what we DO NOT NEED at this point! We already have nice rural projects in Oregon, Mississipi, and Dhamaghosa and others are nicely situated in the country as well, go and work with one of these projects and make something rural, that is nice, but do not add some doomsday element. thanks pd

One of the "side effects" of nuclear explosions is the destruction of practically everything electronic [circuit boards, computers, etc.] due to the EMP. So, the power plants world wide would pretty much all become unusable, even if you could "burn" wood, old tires, or whatever. And how would you get those 'fuels' to the plants, since ALLl transportation will come to a grinding halt. Also, practically all those things we posses that require electricity, they too would become useless due to the effects of EMP!
I personally heard Srila Prabhupada say, "After the war [WW3] there will be no more cities and no more automobiles". And in Amsterdam SP stated that , "soon all the major cities in the world will only be melted steel and rubble".
In addition, everybody should know that all the nuclear power plants on this planet are going to suffer total "melt downs" , as the result of WW3. Without electricity, or carbon based fuels necessary for the cooling systems, all nuclear power plants will follow in the footsteps of Chernobel and Fukishima! pgps. perhaps some of you remember the 2003 power outage that effected over 50 million people on the East Coast, starting in Michigan. That was just a hint of what's to come!
