I had the game pre-loaded, I can get to the menu, but once I start
single player and it loads it is a black screen. I am using the
software mode on the portal2.exe so far I'd classify this as a no-go
unless it was a corrupt installation. It has been confirmed to work on
the Intel X4500 series but with a bit of lag.
I plan to re-install it but from what I understand your in a room in
the beginning so it could be occlusion, HDR, or something like that. I
will also try with the L4D2/Alien Swarm config file and see what
happens.
My Computer Setup:
Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2080 @ 1.73 GHz
Intel 950 GMA with v1.2 Sherry Drivers
2 GB RAM
P.S.: if you got it to work tell me how.

Hmm the room in the beginning isn't particularly graphics intense at all :p
Although if the X4500 has Shader Model 3.0, Portal 2 "should" work without issue (with questionable framerate though).

X4500 has shader model 4.0, and for that PC the specs were:
Intel Pentium-Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz each
Intel Mobile 4 Express Chipset (X4500MHD)
4 GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit
did you get it running on the 950 gma? what settings, ect?

Mine is a Skidrow download. they always cut about 20% of the original download :P I will start the download tonight, so in 6 hours, it should download about 4.5 Gig at 300 kbps.

That is actually very surprising, it is a great game and the versions of it running on the old source engine run very smoothly and look great on our GMA950 based machines.

I'm actually playing portal 2 with 10 fps as the minimum and 25 fps
the highest, average is around 15 fps
Specs:

Hmm, I thought Portal 2's engine was better optimized, well I got 60-100FPS at times on my Radeon HD 3200.
My Shaders and Effects were Medium though, Models and Memory at High, and resolution at 640x480. No AA, 2xAF. Thats my standard Source-Engine setup anyway.

The only solution I can find is to run the game in window mode, and then from game options, choose "Full Screen" That solves the problem for me.

the fix is to use intel's drivers, do NOT use any registry tweaks. and
for the launch options use this: "-console -dxlevel 90 -novid
+sv_cheats 1 +mat_postprocess_enable 0 +cl_forcepreload 1
+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +mat_fullbright 0"

i get that as well. it seems to be something with portal 2 enabling
HDR by default and the bloom settings or it was the bumpmapping
effects....
